Will a DVD work in the same way?

Hi All. I have been thinking about watching my favourite movies on my laptop, you know the ones, that are repeated every Christmas. I know that I can listen to my favourite Rolling Stones CD’s on my laptop, but, what about DVD’s? okay they maybe repeats but, they are “repeats of my choice “ . Any advice, comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Best wishes Kevin

Hi Kevin

Does your laptop have a DVD/CD player tray?

Cheers

Just put them in the CD tray and see what happens. Hopefully your laptop has the software as standard, so it will play automotically. Put in the same way as a CD, ie, picture side up.

Happy viewing.

Hi Max.  Thank you for your reply. Yes it most certainly does, but, I didn’t know if playing a DV was the same as playing a CD. But when I Googled it there was a comment about “ Windows 10. “ that I didn’t understand.Best wishes Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Now, this might sound a bit weird, but it is only about 6-months ago that we actually 'invested' in a television. We had spent the previous 16 or so years without one, and we watched movies, TV programs, DVD box sets, and whatever we fancied on an old Apple Powerbook (read – laptop), or a portable DVD player.

The newer portable DVD players are pretty poor quality, but the Powerbook proved to be a very good solution with better picture quality than our new TV, and it also remembered where you left off when watching a film.

The one thing we did do was plug the headphone outlet into the hi-fi for better sound quality, and watch that the laptop doesn't get too hot through prolonged use.

Best wishes

Gordon :-)

Hi Gordon. Thank you for your reply. I am really out of my depth when it comes to modern technology. Up until recently my laptop has been gathering dust, redundant and neglected. But thanks to a gentleman of this Parish it is back in service. I have played CD’s on it, it is that with so many repeats I just cannot be bothered anymore.   Best wishes Kevin

Here's an idea, Kevin . . .

Go to YouTube and search for pretty much anything.

Here's what I got when I searched Arthur Askey . . .

There's a whole world of stuff there.

Hi Max. Thank you for your reply. Yes I have heard that song. Which reminds me, I think that it was Arthur Askey? with Richard Murdoch where he was a train driver and Richard ( Dickie ) Murdoch played his fireman.Best wishes Kevin

Good grief Max - that's going back a bit.  They don't make them like that today …………… ;-)

One has to ask - why would you be searching for Arthur Askey …………..not much bluegrass there :hmm

Arthur Askey?  My God, has it come to this?  You either need to get out more Max, or seek some counselling!

We sincerely hope not Max, as you are part of this remarkable family and much needed  :thumbs

I remember Arthur Askey, a happy little chap, occasionally to be heard still on BBC Radio 4 Extra ont'computer.

Me and the bride moved into the barn here three years ago and still have a goodly quantity of boxes unopened. I'm now creating extra storage in the old wine chai to get them out of the barn, so you have some breathing space yet!

Bon courage, best,

Bill

The play 'The Ghost Train', on which the film was based, was written by Arnold Ridley.  He played the elderly gentleman in 'Dad's Army'.
