Come on Ron - bew a devil - let's see them and the video. :thumbs

Liz's ex brother-in-law flew Vulcans during the Cold War before he was reduced to flying a desk in the RAF.  I also remember going to an air show many years ago with my late Uncle - might have been Finningley.  He flew Lancasters during the war and the BBMF landed after their usual fly past.  The Lanc had a staging put alongside the cockpit so people could go up and look in - there were quite a lot of ex bomber crews around air shows in those days.  It was quite moving to see many of them with a tear in their eyes as they indicated their positions on board to us - the "next" generation.

At that particular show, a Vulcan came in slow and low then, near the ned of the runway, she stood on her tail and opened up her throttles.  Wow - nearly everyone ducked.  I don't think I'd ever felt such pressure waves nor heard such noise before.  I understand this "exhibition display" was banned later because it frightened people.  A truly awesome aircraft !!!

Fantastic,

Big machines but fly so graciously, bending and twisting as they go. Wouldn't like the fuel bill though. :mutley

Cheers Ron.

I was on the "you bend'em we mend'em" crew at Waddington in the 60s, probably worked on 558 then, saw it at Culdrose display when it did the full out roar climb, set off a load of car alarms all round the field; see it at the Bournemouth air show over the last few years.

Cheers MIKE

There used to be one near where i used to live at Wellesbourne in Warwickshire. It didn't fly but they eventually got it to taxi down the runway.

Yes Alan, it's flying over there today. it's spending the weekend overflying all V bomber bases and remaining Vulcans in the country. Might see it again today as it's flying over RAF Waddington which is just down the road from me!!

Cheers

Something so deadly. Looking so gracefull…still doesn't beat the 'dance ' of the Harrier Jump Jet though …I got to see it up close and personal at Turnhouse when I did a job for a parcels firm that had buildings just outside the fence next to the  apron.  Sat on the grass having my lunch when two of them flew in and did a practice dance on the apron right near me  bowed to each other then beggered off …..straight up….absolutely stunning. Apparently they were practising for a show being given for some bigwigs visiting that weekend….keep up with posting these things Ron, we love em thanks !

I saw it at Finningley a few years ago, again the low pass and full power climb out - deafening.

I thought it had recently had a massive rebuild to extend its fatigue life, then I read on teletext that it will be grounded after this display season. Does anyone know what's going on there, it sounds as if there is something seriously wrong. I hope it's not just the money running out.

There was one displayed outside Blackpool airport for several years. It ended in tragic farce, if there is such a thing. Some one bought it cheap on ebay (he really did) then realized he couldn't move it, couldn't pay the rent to Blackpool, and it was cut to shreds in full public view and sold for scrap.

Brian

As I understand it Brian, the wing spar's all need replacing at a hell of a cost and they cannot find flight engineer's to keep it airworthy! Looking at around £3,000,000 to keep it going! Don't understand why the government don't step in, if it was an old building in London they would!! Must earn a revenue from visitors etc ??

Cheers
Ron
