During my travels I recently called in to Carnforth to see what was left of the old coal and ash plants there. I took a few quick photos for reference purposes. You can see them at:

I believe this coaling plant was the prototype for the Superquick kit.

These images are all part of the current (albeit slow) planning for my new MPD layout.

Good Photo's Perry and when you see the rolling stock at the bottom of the plant it makes you realise just how big the thing really is.

It's good to hear that more people have started scratchbuilding. I hope I'm not responsible for too many cut fingers and swearwords!

I doubt if I'll make much practical progress on my railway before the start of winter now, as I have many other things going on at present - most of them good!

I'll still visit the forum in the meantime, though.

The past six months or so has been 'interesting' to say the least! There have been huge changes both in my life and my circumstances but I'm gradually readjusting.

Planning the layout has hit the usual 'wall' insofar as I'm having a job squeezing in everything I want to. This in turn makes it very hard not to make the layout too cluttered; I don't want the entire baseboard surface covered in track. I want plenty of space for buildings and scenery (scratchbuilt, of course!).

It woud be easier if I just wanted a little narrow guage line, but I don't. It has to be BIG locomotives, sheds, coal and ash plants, the works. I'll get there eventually, and I'm still having fun kicking ideas around.

I'm busy with other projects at present but the layout - and this forum - is never too far from my thoughts. It's good to see the familiar faces are still here.

Hi there Perry mate. Can't say how good it is to see you back with us. As one of our founder members you are part of the foundations here. I don't know if you have had a look at our Gallery or not but it is very easy to use and your pictures are quite safe on here. There are about 8,000 photographs and drawings in there at the moment.

Perry, if you don`t mind me chipping in,I would use the gallery photobucket is getting awkward lately
they keep pushing you to go pro. (I just use it for video now)

I have uploaded the Carnforth photos to our Gallery and will remove them from Photobucket.

The images may look similar in a lot of cases, but I tried to get as many angles and details as the local circumstances would allow. It involved quite a trek as the railway does not allow any access to these structures. I was poking about in field, lanes and public footpaths to get these shots and they were all I could manage given the circumstances.

They are not meant to be decorative images, purely reference shots for model-making purposes.

How's this for a challenge: how about super-detailing a Superquick Coaling Tower kit using what you can see on these pictures?
