Pug Loco advice on Motor Position and Type required

Hi All.  It is just two years since I returned to model railways. I had great plans that didn't go anywhere, and ended up building Puzzle Planks. While viewing YouTube videos to get more ideas on how the hobby has progressed  etc and buying off eBay I am getting further away from my goal. Now I have descended to buying Hornby Pugs ( not small dogs?) Small Locos, and some are more like toys but I cannot tell which one is which by the photos. Some have Motors set at roughly 45 degrees under the boiler, and now I have discovered some Motors are in the Cab, poor driver, set Upright . Then a kind member emailed me a service sheet to help me, which if I can get my hands on that type of Pug? will come in handy. My Pugs must be cheaper because the couplers are built into the chassis, not screwed. Buffers as well can be different. Is there a definitive guide to these funny little Locos?
Better yet would a member/ s give me the " Low Down" " Dos and Don'ts" on Preowned. Pugs and Spares?
All the best. Kevin

Hi Terry.   Thank you for your reply.  I think they are the cheaper version.  CR , GWR, GER, 06 Blue Diesel and another couple. But I got in a mix up with my iPad , and I have got to take some new photos. And when I have done so I will post them. I am a bit of a technophobe , all the best. Kevin
