Modern image Diesels
Hi All. Don't get me wrong, but, after buying a "Hornby M7" only to find out later, that they "could not pull the skin off a rice pudding . And suffering from the "Dirty Track Syndrome" (i.e. Going mad with all the home remedies )I decided to make it my business to investigate "Loco Pulling Power", before that is I get round to building.a permanent layout with inaccessible tracks? I saw a non Bachmann product (CMX track cleaner which is rather heavy, all round, and hard to get hold of) then I read about the Lanarkshire Models lightweight version, so I may try that?Anyway, back to Bachmann , I sent them an email, enquiring about a Diesel with "Two Motors" their reply put me straight , apparently one motor drives both bogies, combined with heavy chassis blocks and flywheels the models are capable of hauling the longest and heaviest trains using a single motor. Thank you Bachmann for your info.
The nearest Loco that they produce for the period that I.am modelling is the class47 in green( weathered)
Can anyone advise me on this subject ? All the best. Kevin

Welcome to the wonderful world of a heavy ZAMAC chassis, a decent sized can motor, dual flywheels and plenty of traction from those 6-wheel bogies at either end. One of the reasons I shifted my primary focus from steam to diesel. Get the DCC sound model whenever possible, fitting a decoder and speaker into older DC models can sometimes be challenging, as will be the lighting control (unless if like me you enjoy this sort of thing). Pulling a dozen passenger coaches or 30-40 coal trucks is well within the capability of this type of model (15 and 60 is more like it). Plus most Bo-Bo models will do the same as well. Apropos a green Bo-Bo, is a green WR Warship (1964-1971 on the Waterloo-Exeter run) out of your time range? Those two 1000 hp Maybach engines starting one after the other and then idling slightly out of sync…I see Kernow are taking orders for the Bullied diesel as well (1-Co-Co-1). Could be a wait though, but if you want one get your name down, it's a limited edition model.
It's only when you get to O-scale that you usually find 2 motors, one driving each bogie (a ZAMAC chassis would be too heavy). Plus powered fans and working diesel exhaust.

That's the new way now for most models that are not going to appeal to the majority of modelers. If enough people don't express interest and commit up-front by pre-ordering then the manufacturing process dies, usually some time between the CAD and tooling stage. Happens all the time here.

One of the reasons I buy second hand - no wait time (apart from postie Patricia).

Who knows what the keep in the back of the van. As long as she delivers my latest buys on time. BTW, we still get Saturday regular mail and Sunday parcel delivery.

1930? Tardis equipped posties. Beats our lot. So that's what they keep in the back of the van.
