Anyone own one and what pin decoder does it use

Hi all.My next RTR purchase is likely to be the Bachman G2 A 0-8-0  with open cab/tender.
If anyone owns one I would be grateful for information on the decoder to get, 21 pin or 8 pin ?
Also how do they perform.
regards,
Derek

Derek, it requires a 21 pin decoder.  As with most Bachmann models, it is a superb runner.  I fitted mine with sound following an article a year ot two back in one of the model railway magazines.  Fitting a sound decoder is extremely easy on this model.

Hmmm, I have the LMS version and the 21 pin decoder went in just fine.  A friend bought the BR version with tender cab and I found that the socket seemed to be backwards.  Not a difficult fix but something to watch for.

Well I took the plunge yesterday and ordered the loco.
I could only get a weathered BR model with out the backcab.
So some re-letter and number work will need doing to restore it to its original company owner,s. L.N.W.R.
Sorry for the late reply Terry regarding your sound article of course you should post it as its always going to be of interest.

Regards,

Derek

Hi all, My G2 A 0-8-0 arrived. Lovely model and ran straight from the box on some of my storage yard track.
Also tested a new Bachman 3F 0-6-0, Not so lucky with this one.
It was dead on the track.
So looked for the usual Bachman problem. bent pickup,s.
Sure enough center ones were bent in on the inside wheel spokes.
Took the body off as well to check the wiring, Seemed okay.
Body was a pain to refit, the tender drawbar took a fair bit of fiddling to get it seated on the loco and rescrewed in.
Tested and it now runs very well with power going through all wheels.
Now I look like I will have to use some historical licence with the G2 as it has a belpaire firebox which was an L.M.S. modification in the 1920,s.

regards all,

Derek

Agree about the 3F body Derek - it is a royal pain to refit.  Unfortunately this is necessary if you want to get rid of the capacitors.

Thanks for your reply John.
Darn it, I should have removed those capacitors.
One thing I did learn about that 3F drawbar screw, You can unclip that brake bar pivot which sit,s on top of it.
This done very carefully gives you a straight approach with the screwdriver.Take,s a bit of nerve though as these fitting,s are very delicate?
We live and learn.

Just an update.
I have ordered a G2 round top boiler and LNWR cab.
Mousa models are developing a series of replacement loco body,s and parts to replace original Bachman models.
This will be useful for more variations.
Will see how it goes.
regards.
