Wall plug to PCP connection

Hi All.   My Locos Run successfully, but,” I have painted myself into a corner” . My new idea of extending my four foot by fourteen inch Portable Shunting Puzzle has just got derailed , something that even I could not manage in my working life?To make the connection with the second plank , I moved the Wallplug connection access. Now I need to add an adaptor between the NCE wall plug and the PCP Panel,( as you all know, it is originally , a straight length of cable) my idea would consist of a plug to the PCP Panel, a short piece of suitable cable, and a similar socket to make the original connection. Sounds SIMPLES , but , I have scoured safari and cannot find the hardware that I require Without any luck.  Could anyone please help me ???  Best wishes. Kevin

So your NCE power pack plugged into your mains on the wall? So Why not get a mains extension cord?

But if you wanted to just extend the cable from the power pack to the PCP unit, just cut that cable in half & extend it with some bell cable - soldered & insulated with heat shrink of course  ,  something like this

 Hi Ron. Thank you for your reply. When I built my second plank, I purchased another PCP Panel, and share the wall plug. But the original plank had the cable access at the end which got in the way , now I thread my cable through the surface of the baseboard , behind the scenic break. Instead of unplugging the “ jack plug?” everytime, I would like to wire up a short extension which remains in sight to save faffing about. That is providing that one is available , which reminds me “.Why is there a plug on the cable, and an adapter to the PCP Panel? Best wishes. Kevin

The NCE power pack which plugs into the mains, has a banana plug to plug into the PCP - that is the way the Powercab was designed - a fully functional moveable command station & controller all in one as some modellers may have a programming track in one part of the house and by obtaining another PCP, it allows the one power unit & controller to be moved to allow the User to move it between layouts at lot easier than its big brother, the PowerPro.

Hi Ron.  Thank you. That is why I purchased the second. PCP. Panel. And I have wired in the Centre off which for the programme track. It is the case access to the PCP Panel has been compromised by the “extension plank “. And that is the sole reason for requiring the “add on adaptor” to save faffing around trying to thread the cable through the hole. If NCE sold the plug as an adaptor ? that would do nicely.  Best wishes. Kevin

To hook up two PCPs, don't you just connect them with the provided flat cable?

Obviously, the PCP located on the plank end will need to be relocated to the side.

Hi Bill.    Thank you for your reply. I don’t want to connect two PCP Panels together . I am sharing one Powercab between two planks , but at different times. And to that end , I want to make an extension from thePCP Panel under the baseboard ( not because I am a lazy Modeller??) through the access hole to the Powercab .

Sorry for misunderstanding your intention Kevin, as your posts talk about extending your plank and using two PCPs.

I may not be the only one who grasped the wrong end of the stick, but I'll certainly stop beating myself around the head with it now!

Hi Bill.   Thank you again .YES I have go two planks, but, they were not designed to work together, this extension is a new idea, inspired by Chubber, “double sector plate.”   Best wishes.  Kevin

Hi Bill and Ron   I began this thread R’s about Face. My Shunting Puzzle plank looks like a tool box with a 25mm hole at one end for cable access, to keep the dust out it has a Dinghy Bung which is fine, but if I wanted to add an extension something had  to go. And I removed the Bung and filled in the hole. I cut a hole in the baseboard behind the scenic break, then realised that I would have to faff around with the PCP connections, “ Idea” buy spare cables and leave them plugged in, Okay but, I couldn’t have a Wall Plug clonking/ Banging around doing all sorts of damage.Begin a thread! That is when I asked for help, just a “Short Cable” with a plug at one end and a socket at the other, just like a bridge, fitted in place between the PCP and the baseboard surface. No more faffing around, terrific .

Sounds like you a need a male pig tail and a female pig tail joined together by the wires.
Add wiring in the middle to your hearts desire. Two together is about 3 feet long. Insulate the soldered joins with heat shrink. Amazon.co.uk, search DC power pigtail cable, 10 pairs for  Â£6.99. Allows you to make mm, mf or ff ends. Fits the plug on the NCE power pack.

Hi Ron. I phoned the shop, where I purchased my Powercab , and ask him about a banana-plug,for the power cable.At first he was uncertain , but when I explained he knew what I wanted, he looked through his stock but didn’t have the correct size. I have got get a “ 2.3mm jack plug to screw adaptor”, I will have to contact ( if I can find any) a supplier   Best wishes. Kevin
