I've been looking at the Relco unit for my DC layout and wondered if anyone else had used one.

Good for DC as it uses a high frequency, high voltage to break through the crud that gets on rails & wheels  BUT should NEVER be used on DCC - decoders give up magic smoke !!

Thanks for that Ron there's no chance I'll manage to adapt to DCC, I'm still struggling with the concept of beer in tins!

Like Owen, I used one in my former life when I hhad a layout first time around (or maybe it was second time around …..).

They're good but like all these "aids to good running", they're not a substitute for cleaning your track.  They're great, as Sol says, for blowing crud away for a time but eventually, that crud will become too deep even for them.

If I were still DC, I wouldn't be without one …………….as it is, I'm DCC so had to fork out around £100 for the CMX machine !!! thumbs

DCC may well be "only two wires", but those wires don't come cheap …………………..;-)

Thanks for your replies, I've looked at a couple on epay and have decided to buy one. As my layout will be end to end and only 25cm deep I'll also be able to clean the tracks without any problems. I'm now wondering if it will affect the MrRails auto chuffer?  I'll email them with the question.
