A help with how to check wiring with a meter?

I generated a file for a friend to help him wire his layout and thought it might be useful to some of you to use the principles of using a meter to check the wiring. It uses his schematic and the fact he uses Atlas selector switches should not be an issue…
Initially I was not able to upload the file hence Max and Sols input so please refer to the fifth posting in this thread to download it! Hope it is useful,

It is a PDF file - 4 pages would be awkward as a JPG and I cannot upload it to my photo file - have I another way of doing it short of serialising it?

Thanks for that Trevor, as usual you are a fount of all things electrical and this looks very comprehensive.
I've often wondered how I would go about checking wiring etc if I had a meter so this might encourage me to get one! :oops:

Thanks Mate and good to hear from you but I really do not hold a candle to a lot of people I know…
If you get an analogue Multimeter you could pick up a bit from http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=10819&forum_id=9, otherwise use the same principles with a digital one for selecting the range. For Model Rail purposes, you only need a solid meter and not the biggest and best as it is only an indication rather than the full scientific meter.
BTW have you been able to run trains yet? We need an update!

I have Trevor but only for testing conductivity etc., and needless to say after all your guidance everything works 100%. I then decided to disconnect the controller from it's top drawer position whilst I carry on with the scenic work as it gets in the way when stretching over in some areas plus it stops me getting into the drawer underneath which is full of scenic stuff!!! Anyway, it will be reconnected as soon as I complete the adjacent area.
Incidentally I have done some landscaping updates under my Coombe Hinton thread.

Nice one. An essential piece of gear. I don't know how you can be in this hobby without one. Much better than watching the sparks fly or wondering why it won't work.
