How can i make a 4 digit Long Address eg Full Diesel Running number ?

About 6 months ago I took the plunge and invested in a Black Z21. I'll say at the outset I love this system compared to NCE cabs which I use at our local club (they are good of course - but don't have the most accessible screens/info displays).
I particularly like it because it offers both the more tactile hand controller Maus as well as having control from any phone/pad so any guest can quickly get involved with their own control in their hand. I like the fact that routing can be set up simply once points have decoders. (Using MERG system for that - also a great resource).

As the summary suggest the challenge I'm having with the system is to be able to program Long 4 digit addresses. CV1 only deals with shorter addresses up to 3 digits 100 or whatever. I haven't yet figured out a way of giving 4 digit numbers to my locos.
Any advice from an experienced user would be welcome? I have a feeling it also may differ from one chip manufacturer to another as CV29 seems to offer them some choices.

John,

Pages 53-55 of the instructions.

Edit: The English translation looks dodgy. There are several You Tube how-to videos on this topic. All of 25-30 minutes.
Edit: As does the French section. I have the impression this a great visual interface, but somewhat clumsy and convoluted when it comes to setting parameters such as the decoder address. Almost an afterthought after the user driving interface. What decoder are you using?

The Z21 should happily accept the 4 digit address in programming mode but you should check what cv29 is set to as it might be set to 2 digit not 4 in which case the Z21 will use the 2 digit address instead. There is an online calculator that lets you work out what value you need to enter into cv29 which along with other things, will set 2 or 4 digit addressing. I'm on a tablet atmo but I'll try and find the calculator and post a link unless someone beats me to it

This should help with cv29 settings    http://www.2mm.org.uk/articles/cv29%20calculator.htm

I've not switched my Z21 on i  anger for a couple of months' but yes, a great system !
Go into the z21 programming mode, program on programming track, in the relavent box enter cv29 then 'read cv'

Now check the calculator and you can work out what settings cv 29 is set for,   dc on or off, 2 or 4 digit address etc, etc and then work out what you need to change the entered number too, to switch 4 digit address on

Cheers
