How do I use it?
Hi all,I've all ready got the Zimo MXULFA and I've just bought the MXTAPS to load sounds a lot quicker than through the rails, more reliably too. I've bought a used windows 10 laptop which is slow, but does get there and I've downloaded a free Paul Chetter sound file from the Zimo site just to try it out. But and it's a big but, I can't figure it all out on my own.
Firstly, I don't know how to get a sound file into the Zimo Sound Programmer (ZSP) and anything after that won't of course happen, so I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to go about it.

The MXTAPS, as far as I know, is just a decoder tester, presumably to fine tune the decoder once it's loaded with the sound file. I haven't really studied it but I'm not sure how, or if, one can play around with CVs on it.
Whilst I too have both gadgets, I've never actually loaded a file and sometimes wondered why I bought the MXTAPS. I'm not sure but think it will only operate on Zimo decoders. Similarly, I've only ever used the MXULFA for messing with CVs. I want to learn more about it before I try the complex stuff.
I wonder how many on here have these gadgets - i.e. would it be worth having a Zimo section ?

I've just heard that Zimo is upgrading their famous MX sound chips to the all new singing and dancing MS range, to be gradually introduced in the coming months.
YouChoos have all the gen over on https://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Detail.php?L1=Detail&Item=MSRange
Well worth a gander. I'm getting tempted even more.
Best,
Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

I'm subscribed to the news letter but missed that one. The user manual left me knowing about as much as I did when I started. I'll have a proper look at the news letter a bit later when things are a bit quieter. The root of the problem is that I'm a complete dummy with the win 10 computer and can't even figure out how to put a sound file in to the ZSP.

Funny you should say that because I was on the 12 year old Glenfiddich last night. :)

If you lived in this part of France, you'd realise that was no mean feat - whilst France is a huge consumer of Scotch, with an eye watering range to choose from, for some strange reason, Macallans is never amongst them.
Returning to the matter in hand, how did you receive your sound file Pete ? As I said, I've never loaded one but assumed it came as a downloadable file on your computer. Don't you just copy that to a flash drive which plugs into the MXULFA ?
I'll have a look at what I've got and see if I can understand it …….. Are you a member of the Zimo forum ?

And a guy in a red and white suit dropped a bottle of 12 year old Macallans in our fireplace the other day….. :cheers

Not a bad drop eh. I wonder why Macallans doesn't usually appear.
Back to this less important than whisky subject: I do have the MXULFA but bought the MXTAPS so that I could load sound files much quicker; about one or two minutes as opposed to twenty or thirty minutes. Not being a windows user for quite some time, I'm getting confused and frustrated trying to put a downloaded sound file (free Paul Chetter 4MT) into the Zimo Sound Programmer (ZSP) app. I've realised that I need a couple of special terminals to plug in a power wire. These are on order, but even if I work out how to load the file into ZSP I still have to figure out how to use it properly. The MXTAPS can be used in conjunction with the ZSP to make sound files and edit them. I'm not planning on trying any of this, just fast sound loading.

Have you managed to open the Zimo files on your laptop ? There should be a ZSP app in there somewhere and I presume you load your flash drive sound programme into that ….. :hmm
As I said, I've never done it myself so don't really know. You will need those connectors you've ordered for the SUSI cable.
Have you tried contacting Paul Chetter direct to ask if he'll hold your hand through your first upload ?

If anyone needs the method of using the MZTAPS/V to load sound, let me know and I'll send it to you.
