On the 3rd of May I received another Zimo MS480 sound decoder. I tested it on the MXTAPS. I connected the speakers wires and made sure that the internal speaker was selected. Read the address on the programming track and it was OK. But no sound. Anyway, I set the motor going and it made a quiet pulsing noise. Knowing my lug holes ain't the best, I thought I must have missed it on other decoders. I de soldered the wires I don't need (the T9 doesn't have much room) and made the soldered connections to pick ups, motor, speaker and stay alive. Back to the programming track and nuffin, zilch etc!  It's now winging it's way to Austria for repair.

I've just ordered my last decoder from Digitrains and hope this one works OK.

Fingers crossed.

Cheers Pete.

You don't seem to be having a great deal of luck with Zimo at present Pete ……………………..

I do hope it's not a sign they're going the same way as many other manufacturers seem to have gone - i.e.  leave the testing to the customer ………..

I hope so too, but the cause of the problem is yet to be established . Even if it turns out to be a faulty batch I'm still a fan of their products. I've just ordered the last of my sound decoders, this one for a Hornby rebuilt Merchant Navy that I've had since a trip to England many years ago. This was bought at The Signal Box in Rochester. It was £50.00 new! What a difference.

Cheers Pete.
