Hi All.     Diesels and Steam sounds I know all too well, but, I don’t know what type of sound I can expect to hear from an EMU. I have some Southern electric units that run on DCC but not sound . Would some kind Member tell me what I could expect to to hear motors, generators, doors, whistles? and is it worth the effort . Best wishes Kevin

Kevin,

Just type 'DCC sound for EMU' into your search engine and hey presto . . .

. . . fill your boots, as they say.

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Hi Bill.  Thank you for your reply. I have been looking up videos all afternoon? But none of them gave me a hint of the sound that they produce. Best wishes Kevin

I've just typed the above into Google and hit the link to the second result, a video, which shows and plays the effects for an EMU

Presumably, you'll be modelling the third rail like Rick, unlike the video which has the collector shoe arc flashing against nothing at all!

Hi Bill.  Thank you again, believe me I couldn’t find that the first time, it’s a pity that I haven’t got the space for a Roundy Roundy I haven’t even got the third rail. Best wishes Kevin

I have to agree with the comment below that vid - I haven't found an SR or BR(S) EMU sound I really liked, yet. To be fair, legomanbiffo (bif for short) does usually include the compressor sounds on a separate function key.

I do have some more modern sounds that work better for my tastes: a class 319 using bif's class 320 sounds, and a couple of class 450s, also with bif's sounds. Video links below.

I did have a 4 CEP fitted with Howes' sound but wasn't satisfied with that so had the decoder reblown and installed in something else.

Here's a very old vid taken with it on Neil Wood's layout.

Hi Jeff.    Thank you for your reply.  I have been to Bif, to have my Heljan Class 33 Loco fitted with sound, not expensive at all and when you compare the competition, where “ You Choos “ are concerned and the company they recommend to do the job.Best wishes Kevin

Hi Jeff.  Yet again another reply. I have just been watching Howes DCC sound Bachmann Class 411 CEP..  And I noticed that it carried the Number 4 headcode, was there a reason for that. Best wishes Kevin

Hi Kevin, it was one of the optional doors supplied with the unit. Headcode 4 was London Charing Cross to Dover and Margate on the Eastern Division, and London Victoria to Brighton (fast) on the Central Division, so seems entirely appropriate for me to use.

It can also be Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour on the Western Division.

Hi Jeff.   Thank you for your reply. I put the cart before the horse, I recognised the headcode from the day’s when I used the train to travel to Deal in Kent for my fishing trips.   Best wishes Kevin
