Stand alone Tsunami decoder

Hi All.  I have found a new reason to fit(or pay someone to fit)
Digital Sound on a Railway Car, it is the "Clickerty Clack" plus many other sounds like "Wheel Squeal" etc in fact all the sounds you would expect.
Now if some clever person could translate to a "Two Car EPB" that would really be brilliant. all the best. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Ask Paul Chetter if he can reprogram the decoder to have clickity-clack (rail clank) as a function if it's not already installed (check the instructions). You should already have rail squeal as a function.

Many ESU Loksound decoders already have rail clank installed. Setting the timing is the same as setting a steam engine chuff rate (click.clack…….click.clack..click.clack…….click.clack)

Hi Nigel.  Thank you for your reply. I did contact Kernow, and they didn't think of the idea? Referring to the ESU decoder, and that with the modern image and long welded rails with concrete sleepers, it was unpopular.
To which I replied " I am working in the Tranition Era from Steam to Diesel
with Short Rails and Wooden Sleepers". That is correct I do have Rail Squeal, and on the "Thumper" I have Door Slam, Bell and Buzzer too.
The original set up for the Traxx being in a Rail Car/Box Car?, I wasn't  sure how that would translate to UK outline BR(S) EMU's?
all the best. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The Soundtraxx sounds for the rail car/box car are North American. The ckickity clack may be problematic if it is set to American track practice - 39 foot rail lengths with the joints on the 2 rails staggered. UK practice is longer lengths and joints opposite each other. My understanding is that ESU have the sounds available for download.

Hi Nigel.  Thank you , the old practice in the UK was 60 foot rails, which is a bit different . I have found an outlet online in England but with no
mention of the possibility of a difference in Clickety clack rhythm, maybe they forgot about that??  all the best. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Rail lengths in the UK were actually highly variable, depending on the track layout (especially around turnouts), region and company. The Soundtraxx Soundcar has adjustable CVs for the number of axles/bogies, train speed and rail gap spacing, so you should be able to get close to what you want. The instruction manual is 44 pages long, although the section on clickity-clack and flange squeal is only a couple of pages.

For a short 2 car consist one decoder and 2 speakers would be sufficient. Do you have the space though? It will need wiring in as well. It's a fair-sized decoder.

Hi Nigel. Thank you for the update, the units that I would require the "Clickety Clack" for are Hornby 2Hal and 2 Bil, or Bachmann 2 EPB.I would like to think that there would be enough space in the trailer car, but I am not certain as to.how the pick up contacts work.
I was interested in the "Magnet" idea for the consist of the decoders.
Believe or not I have only just got round to removing the Bachmann couplers from the wagons, I never rush anything?
All the best. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

With insulated wheels you will need to split the current output from the wipers. One red/black to the current decoder, one red/black to the Soundtraxx decoder. Programming them could be interesting.

Hi Nigel.  Thank you, sounds like a job for someone who has done it before. Today I removed the screws from the Bachmann wagons and discovered that they also hold the body in place, and two small pieces of metal fell from somewhere. But all being well? a member of my local is going to help me with the Kadee.  all the best. Kevin
