Brake Test overlooked?
Hi All. One sound effect that is noticeable by its absence ? is the “Brake Testâ€. If we are going to have sound on our layouts why leave out the most Important Sound? “The Brake Testâ€? This as most of you know takes place on most of the “Older Stock†(which is the favourite of a good percentage of layouts ). Okay perhaps I am being pedantic . Best Wishes. Kevin

Is this the air brake test on diesel locos you are refering to? In which case, it's on F2 of all my diesel sound projects.
In fact, not only the sound. If the F2 key (which is the working brake feature on all my projects, steam or diesel) is latched the brakes are 'on'. The engine sounds (D-E and D-H locos) will 'rev up' if the throttle is opened, but the model will not move until the brakes (F2) are released.
You can use this as the brake test or for a testing process which involves D-E locos being connected to a Load Bank.This means that the engine, generator and support ancilaries can be stress tested/monitored withou the loco moving. The load bank (a series of resistors) absorbs the power generated, which would normally power the traction motors,and dissipates it as heat.
Or do you mean the vacuum train brake/destroy the vacuum sound from steam locos and early diesels? Depending on the project this may be available separately on an F key or incorporated within the couple/uncouple sounds.
Locos with vacuum braked stock have to destroy the vacuum in order to disconnect the brake pipes (or 'bags' as they are called by locomen) a process most often seen by the public these days when the loco is uncoupled prior to running round its train on preserved railways.
