The GWR Hotel was the first of the large and purpose built hotels erected by railway companies in London. It was designed by P.C. Hardwick and opened in 1854.  It was altered in 1933 - 36, probably by P.A. Culverhouse who was the architect for many of the new Great Western buildings in and around Paddington at the time.
