After over two hours and many super glued fingers, Kingswood farm house can now receive both TV channels (it is 1962 remember). Only a couple of years to wait for a third channel, BBC2, providing that the TV set works on the new 625-line VHF and not the older 405-line VHF.
At least colour will be around in about 5 years time……..

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none.
I'll have to buy a bike, 'cos I can't afford a car.

Thanks Max.

I am trying to find something to make a chimney sweeps brush head. I want to put it sticking out of one of the chimney pots.

A small wire brush from a mini drill set?

Wonderful modelling…I've seen somewhere with the chiminey brush attached to a servo, so you could make it go up and down…

It depended where you live when you got BBC2 and colour, When I lived in The Outer Hebridies, the first time they only had Black and white 405 line BBC1 only, I lived there up till 1975, When I went there the second time, in 1983 they had only just got Colour BBC2, ITV, and channel 4,  the last 405 line transmission being 1985.

Look at dental 'between the teeth' cleaning brushes, as sold in supermarkets amongst the toothpaste…some are ideally made with a wire core. I have used them to clean motion-work on locomotives as well as my gnashers!

I'm amazed the Outer Hebrides got all those lines on their TV's - it's a long way from Ally Pally…………   Did they arrive at the same time or 1 every couple of minutes or so  ?

Well in those days the nearest transmitter was on Skye, on a mountain 72 miles away, but we had a mountain in the way (the BEN in Benbecula) so the picture was snowy at the best of times. And no the lines didn't always arrive at the correct time, as they some times arrived through different times through the atmosphere and the picture would then start ghosting or loose lock and start rolling..

When they built the new transmitter at Clettraval on North Uist, I could see it from my room, so the aerial was a couple of inches of copper wire in the back of the TV, anything more overloaded the TV.
