Buildings

During the lock down in my case now 9 weeks due to my wife being in the most at risk group I have started yet another (my 12th) Black Country themed layout. So far I have built all the point work 4 left and 1 right hand and started on the buildings. The canal-side factories are based on the structures of my Wallows layout so some of you might recognize them whilst the foundry is a flight of fancy. The buildings are 2mm lite-ply with embossed plasticard overlays although the foundry office is from plasticard. The Canal-side factories will hide the fiddle yard with the foundry hiding the exit. My baseboards are on order and as soon as I can I will order the track from Marcway.
Note none of the roofs are fitted only resting in place as they need finishing.

And now a bit of light relief, a bit of a draft in here. (to be set in the office when finished)

That's brilliant Mike - or should it be "Sir John" ……………………….

What glue did you use to stick the plasticard to the ply ?  I understand plastic to wood can be difficult ………….. :hmm

Absolutely love the guy in the drawing office - a stroke of genius there !!  What is the character - Modelu ?

Thank you Peter, I use an impact adhesive spread very thinly to hold the plasticard to the lite-ply. The figure is from a french company  they do quite a range but are expensive.

cheers
Mike

That looks great. That is going to be a large building! Can't wait to see how it progresses.

A bit more bodging on the Foundry office, pattern shop and tempering shop. I really should have tidied the work area before taking happy snaps and I only just remembered to put the light on.

Mr Buffey is a clever chap with all those trades above the door.

Great scene inside - that's the wonder of 7mm scale - the detail, should you wish to model it, can be amazing.

Fabulous stuff and don't worry about the untidy workspace - most are much worse that yours …………….. :thumbs

The main Foundry building nears completion and I have plonked it down with the other group to see how it will look when I start on the baseboards now the kits have just arrived. So no excuses I just need to get on with it.

When I chose the name of my new layout build Harts Hill, it was suggested by local historian and author Ned Williams that it would have to include the cinema. Immediately I pictured an art deco style structure with a name such as The Danilo or Odeon, but it turns out the Limelight Cinema once in Harts Hill but now rebuilt at the Black Country Museum is not much more than a barn. Now me being me I have tweaked and slightly modified my take on it so that it will fit into the location. I hope that I have managed the essence of the building which still needs finishing. The poster/name board in the background includes Buster Keaton in the General and a small version is on the outside wall of the cinema.

Just creating the scene on board 1 . Figures, gate and posts just placed for effect. The sets in the road will be left exposed when I create the surface. Black paint with Chinchilla dust applied to the wet paint. :)
