Kit bashing an Invertrain Models 7mm resin kit

I bought this kit way back in 2009 and recently for something a little different decided to assess it`s potential with a view to an upgrade using some replacement 7mm products .

The kit is a representation of Portesham down in Darkest Dorset and is a complete all resin kit.
A common issue with some resin parts is warping of the parts overtime.

I was`nt satisfied in the quality of the moulding process and some of the skew-wiff appearance of the stonework.

So, in an attempt at improvement it was out with the dental burrs and a few evenings of remedial modelling dentistry………………………………

Then it was  out with the Milliput and straighten out some of the wayward stonework and then assemble it all together with Gorrilla Superglue Gel rather than the time old Araldyte.

the kit supplies good resin roof mouldings but I am going to upgrade with individual roof slates more in keeping with Clarke`s design.
Next up has been to replace the very plain canopy support brackets with those produced by Yorkmodelmaking
and to raise the height of the canopy to be more prototypical.

I then remodelled the rather poorly cast plaster chimney stacks and fitted them in place.

Then time for a dose of Halfords acrylic primer to bring it all together……

The resin canopy I totally replaced with a scratch built version of my own…………………..

Well, I think the company liked the idea of slightly random stones.  They should rethink - your remodelling is brilliant and it looks a thousand times better.  Well worth the time, effort and patience!!  I love the canopy support brackets.  You have turned it into a very classy model.

Thankyou Michael and Reg.
Over the last few days I`ve been trying a few ideas with painting stonework.

I`ve seen the original Portesham Station many times in real life as I lived and worked in Dorset for thirty years and so I`ve seen a few shades of Purbeck and Portland stonework.

The plan has been to keep everything light and use enamel paint mostly old stock Humbrol and Revell.

For the morter I have used acrylic paint mixed in water and plaster…splodged on and wiped off……

Ooh, Heaven knows I hate GWR, but that's a very nice bit of work, especially the colourings. I look forward to seeing it in its setting.

Ooh, ahh, God's Wonderful Railway represented so beautifully! (Sorry Martin, but it's got me, under the skin)

Well done John and a fitting Picture of the Week to boot and it came to life with the corporate colours highlighting that lovely stonework.

Looking forward to more!

Best,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Hi John.  Excellent workmanship . It strikes me that if I could make buildings like that , never mind what they are made of. And you have most certainly made a silk purse out of a sows ear. I wouldn’t be wasting my time wishing that I could, me I am more likely to make a pigs ear out of a silk purse 👛.  Best wishes Kevin

Staying on the thread Kevin.
