Traditional methods, cardboard lathes with Plaster bandage and the river bed was made from some plaster of paris which had set in the bag looking like rocks and rubble!!

Looks good. Is this supposed to be a Warren type truss bridge, or are the sides meant to be barriers and just stop things falling off? As this is O scale how about some plates and rivet heads or bolts/nuts/washers (if you have time).

Definitely a Warren Truss design (even though you freelanced it). Might be called something else where you are. All those metal framing girders (or wood) are designed to prevent deflection of the deck on which the track sits by resisting the downward forces when a train is crossing. Wivets (metal) and NBWs (wood) may just get you the podium. If metal construction some gusset plates as well (that get's you the golden spike).
