Looking back towards Morfa Mawddach.
This is the swing bridge section although it's a long time since it was last opened and it is no longer openable.
Swing bridge section in the middle distance.
From the Barmouth side of the Mawddach.

I think it's as much to do with legislation as anything Terry. There will be all sorts of rules and regulations about using weedkillers so close to the estuary. It's probably also the reason for using steel sleepers a lot nowadays so they don't have any comebacks from people complaining about the use of creosote.Great photos but look at the state of the trackbed in the last photo. So much for the Tory dogma of privatisation of the railway system. I bet the trackbed wouldn't have been allowed to get into that state when the railways were state owned by the much maligned British Railways.

I agree though it certainly doesn't look good or create a good impression to passengers.
