Does anyone have any issues from 1954/1955
Probably a long shot but its worth a try . I am still researching the history and construction of Portishead New Station as we have several questions that we cannot answer and it has been suggested that as it was a newsworthy event there may have been an article about the opening of the station in the Railway Magazine in an issue published in 1954 or 1955 .
Does anyone have any bound volumes , single issues or an index from either year that they could check to see if anything was written about construction and opening ?

I have now received an email from Brenda who is an editorial assistant at IPC magazines who has very kindly come up with search results for all references to Portishead in archive issues of the Railway Magazine . Unfortunately all though there are plenty of references and articles none cover the period or actual subject matter we are looking for so its another dead end.
Incidentally today the Railway Magazine moves to its new home from IPC Magazines to Mortons Media - Is Ian expanding his business interests ?

In a former life I did create a magzine. Far too much like hard work. Now I just write for other people and let them do the worrying .Incidentally today the Railway Magazine moves to its new home from IPC Magazines to Mortons Media - Is Ian expanding his business interests ?

Just to prove you should never believe anything you are told by the magazines !
I followed up a reference to Portishead on ebay and am now the proud owner of a copy of the June 1955 edition of the Railway Magazine which surprise surprise contains a very interesting 8 page article on the history of the Portishead line and its operation in BR days including details of both passenger and goods workings and a detailed description of the new station that back then had only just been opened.
Obviously the Railway Magazine Index search system they employ is not very reliable.
