Also Doug (Doooferdog) has an article he has written about John Ahearn which is part of a presentation about the man and his contribution to model railways

Alan is probably right All magazines publish whatever they wish although they may indicate they may do an article that often does not actually happen im sure there are many people who have been told their layout would be featured but it has never happened or in some cases actually occurs years later than expected.

I would have thought the only possible feature may be the module set up as it was photographed by Ben Jones i believe.

I know Dave Bentley has been in contact with him recently but i believe that was actually to do with Daves West coast minitures.

The show itself having a feature i doubt if there is any chance of that happenning.

Quite right I think Brian.
The photo shoot for Pen Y Bont took place last March and it's still not been published. I haven't even been asked for the article yet!

I Know Mike's Ashwood Basin took over two years between the photo shoot and when it was published.

I emailed Richard Foster the features editor and he said my layout will definitely be published but he doesn't know when!

I wish I had contacted Railway Modeller now has they seem to be more "on the ball" about things.

Cheers!

One thing I quickly figured out when dealing with Model Rail is that for a communications organisation their communications abilities are absolute pants.  If you want something published quickly you need to deliver them pretty much faultless copy and don't wait for them to ask for it, push it at them.

For the Cramdin article Chris Nevard took the photos in March, I delivered them copy about a week later and they published it pretty much word for word with almost no edits in June for the July issue. The edits they did make of course changed the meaning of several sentences meaning they were wrong!

Cheers
Dave

For a show sponsor we don't seem to have gained much from MR at all.  I have seen comments of a similar nature on RMweb from time to time and the lack of any substantial coverage is disappointing to those members of my own family who were unable to visit.

I accept the principle that magazines may publish what they see fit but given the stuff-up with our advertising as well I think we should sound the :Red Card and cry "Not good enough".

That's interesting Brian.

At the end of the show Railway Modeller's editor took some photos of Kernow Junction and said they would "probably" appear in a news feature on the show - nothing has happened.

Model Rail told me they wanted to do a feature on Kernow Junction and would be arranging a photo shoot in the UK - nothing has happened.

Another well known magazine has now said the same (I'm going to go with them if they take it forward) and this time they sound keen, so we'll have to see.

I guess it's an indication of all the newsworthy stories and great layouts there are available at the moment. It's an editor's market.

Dont even get me started ! There is a similar thread on BR blue about the way model rail is currently going down hill compared to its rivals. Gone are the intresting articals like the modules they used to build for their test track and instead they have been replaced with the same old supertest features that basicly just advertise products. Im actualy going to dig out the past 18 months mags and compile a list of all the supertests as im sure that they just keep re running the same stuff. I was dissapointed that there was no mention of our show given all the hard work that was put in by all involved the only thing they did mention was the new tank locos that Chris had samples of. I will be writing an artical over the next couple of months about modelling the WCML that I think Ben is going to use when Bachmann bring out the new class 85 electric sometime next year.

God you are lucky still waiting for November MR175 .I agree with you that it is going downhill since Bauer took it over .Here down under I have not received 3 out of the last years MR , but thanks to Ben Jones got replacement copies for 2 of them,he seems to be the only one that cares.I would advise anybody thinking of taking out a subscription that lives in Australia to be prepare for erratic delivery times :cry:Greenfingers
