This is their blurb on the table Doug.

"Good to know
The table is tested and approved for occasional indoor use only.
Be sure the legs are properly secured under the table top when folded up."

Maybe not too clever for baseboards. Maybe the top would be useful.

Rather pricy for a light-weight (small) table.  Better to take that money down to the timber yard and buy more for less:thumbs

I'm not sure Tim because I haven't bought any timber in the UK for 20 odd years but I have a feeling that it's quite expensive now.

Ah, Tim, I have been to two serious [one chopped-off thumb, one partly severed forefinger] D.I.Y. accidents to assist the Ambulance Service in my time.

Not everyone has our remarkable manual dexterity, our comprehensive tool-kits or all-encompassing grasp of material technology….

….hang on…er….oops! I've just stitched two fingers together trying to open a tin of pilchards with SWMBOs sewing machine….

I'm sorry, I'll re-phrase that for grammarians and speakers of English……..

"It no longer grows on trees".

It looks a bit like a decorating table for wall paper, i think this as the legs look as those they are secured with the rods u have on these tables. If this is the case then they aint very secure, wobble every where i have one.

Seriously, I take back my comment.  I've just done a brief search of the big name DIY places and am blown away by the prices of plywood sheet.  It's still substantially cheaper than that table, minus the legs, but so much more expensive than in the USA.  It's almost dollar for pound sterling.

These would appear to be sturdier and much better value. Height adjustable as well.

Available from 22 August in the UK at least.

Hello rector!

You can definitely say that again. I've just had a quote from one big name merchant for 9mm birch ply (8 x 4 sheets):

£22.95 per sheet (2)
£20 per sheet for cutting
£25 per sheet for delivery (its classed as a heavy item!)

Total cost: £67.95 per sheet.

Probably easier to cut down the tree yourself!

I wondered why the links were not working, then I saw the date on the original posts; so in Urban dictionary terms this would be a necropost.

Seeing Phill's mention of  decorating table reminded me of one of my attempts at portable layouts, a table similar to this one

http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/decorating-supplies/wallpaper-tools-accessories/decorating_tables/B-and-Q-Fibreboard-Top-Paste-Table-Natural-Colour-9371195

Main problem I found was the width at about 22 inches was a bit tight on curves, it would have meant single track unless one was prepared to go for 9" radius curves on the inner track.

Having got the thing though, it was quite sturdy compared to cheaper ones, that I tried with 2 sheets of 4'x2' 2" thick foam insulation which was a bit better but not much, main bonus I got from it was experience with foam insulation sheets which I've used on Purbeck.

Cheers MIKE

If you go to B&Q, you get the first 15 cuts for free!

Then, depending on the size of course, it could fit in the car.

I am in the process of building a new set of boards for my club,

for exhibition use, which is all ply construction (plus legs).

The boards are 4' x 2' x 9" (3 of them), 1 sheet of 6mm ply with

all the cuts, £18:95, and it would have fitted in my daughter's

Corsa.

Hello Jeff

Now therein lies the problem. First I don't have a car. In fact, I haven't driven since some kid in a BMW, who turned out to be both underage and uninsured side-swiped me as I was leaving a roundabout for no other apparent reason that I was (Quote) "In his way!", so it has to be delivery.
In addition to which, we don't actually have a B&Q in Morecambe, the nearest being in Lancaster. You'll gather that Morecambe is somewhat lacking in certain aspects for railway modellers. Luckily for me, my landlords just told me about a trade supplier he deals with and has offered to pick the ply up, ready cut, and drop it off for me! So hopefully, problem solved!

Regards

Bill
