Modular boxes for a modular layout.

Found this on the other forum and thought that anyone here wishing to build a contained micro layout (Box File layout), shunting layout or similar, these could be very useful. The boxes will be manufactured as 'flat pack' and will come in a variety of sizes. They are also 'modular', connecting end to end as well as end to back.  Prices have not yet been discussed. Great idea. :thumbs

Hi Gary,

Looks like a good product depending on price of course. They would make excellent cameo displays.

It'll be interesting to see the prices when available.

Cheers

I picked up an older copy of RM Continental Modeller July15 edition and they reviewed a ply Laser cut baseboard modular system made from 6mm ply which suits a range of layout sizes. The CM reviewer was pleased with his purchase.
It can be found at

Ouch. Looks nice, but at that price I think I can do without the nice looking interlocking cut-outs. I'll stick with 6mm/1/4" Baltic ply (at approximately £12 for a 4 x 8 sheet, enough for at least three-four 4' x 1' layouts or modules), half-an-hour on the shop table saw, butt joints, and reinforcing fillets. I like my layouts (micro to macro) to be seen from both sides so a "theatre" layout with a proscenium arch and sides is OTT (no pun intended). I've seen too many of these at shows where if you stand to one side 15-20% of the view is masked. And 15-20% of what should be hidden is not. Especially if it's more than 6" deep. Bit of thought to the site lines and proscenium dimensions is required for this.
