I have very little space is it impossible

Could someone please help me
My uncle passed down a decent sized model railway track (can't remember exact size) And I love playing with it

I want to buil a track my self but the biggest room I can get is for the board to be 100cm by 90cm

I need the track to by easily portibale
My uncle also gave me a lot a HO trains and accessories so I will stick with HO

Am I trying to attempt the impossible or could it work??

Please help thanks Nick

Nick, 100 x 90 Cm is one metre x 0.9 metre - just over 39" x 36" - it will be a very tight circle in H0.  And that is all you could get in that space!

Are you sure of that size?

Few options are available to you with that space, Nick.
I think you will have to re-think things to be happy long term.
If you could bring yourself to sell the HO stuff and go to 'N' Gauge that might be one option.
Perhaps investigate alternative locations for your layout.
Just for example, can you hang a larger baseboard on a wall and use trestles when you want to work on it?

Hi there Nick,

I have a "make a quick layout in a few hours" link on my website which used 2 2100x900mm foam blocks joined temporarily when set up.  It is lightweight and portable and perhaps you set up something on a corner that can grow later when when room does prevail. I woud give you the direct link but with digitalzones they don't like direct links to graphical pages…hope it helps!
Cheers

Trevor

PS Bob for very good reasons took out the link so we are trying again http://www.xdford.digitalzones.com  ..good luck everyone on take two.

Many apologies Trevor but I have had to remove the link you put in the above post as it led me a merry dance through a whole series of advertisers. Perhaps you typed a character incorrectly or something. It might be just me of course so if you could have another try with it I'll give it another click.

Thanks guys
the space I have is 160x 150 (cm) I said 100x 90 (cm) because I thought I needed room to walk around it

Ddolfelin In response to selling I can't cause my uncle bought it all when he was a kid

I am only 14 and the place I wanted to use was in my bedroom maybe I could use another room but I don't have any spare rooms in my house

So afew questions

1 what is the tightest curve I can have with 4/5 carrage long HO trains

2 any other suggestions for 160x 150 (cm)

Thank you all soooooooo much I am only new model railroading so I don't know much

Hi NIck,

I have PM'ed you with the link in case Robert has had the trouble - I just tried it 4 times and nothing happened - but there are some small layouts also at http://www.thortrains.net and check out the small layouts there as well on Astroslot : Situs Judi Slot Online Gacor Gampang Maxwin Terpercaya There are a few hints for beginners there as well!

Good luck with the hobby and keep the group here posted!

Regards

Trevor

If you can use some more of the space you have it would help enormously.
I understand about not selling.
On the previous size, your coaches would have been in danger of fouling any platforms etc., even though they would probably run around the circle.

Hi, Nick,

Can you hinge a board to the wall? You might need some help to fix it to the wall, but if it folded down to rest on a pair of legs when  in use it would open up a lot more space….it could even fold down over your bed?

Good luck and welcome to THE hobby!

Doug

[PS if the idea is OK, I'd be happy to sketch up an easy way of building the baseboard]

Hi Nick,

What type of rollingstock have you inherited? British coaches are shorter than American style ones so will travel around shorter curves and British goods vans are definitely shorter than US ones.  It might help with the planning of your layout!

However my Athearn and Model Power stock (closest to Canadian stuff I can find) travel around sharper than 18inch radius curves but I use transitions.

Doug's idea for a fold down layout may well also suit you.   One thing, you have time on your side and hopefully thanks to your uncle you have a fair start with a layout!

Cheers

I have some small engines and some big ones
The big ones are just under 30cm
The biggest carriage I have is 30cm

Hope that gives you an idea

Thanks so much for your help but I have a window next to my bed so it can't go there

The board size I'll most probably go with is 145x120 (cm) if it was to be on a wall it would be the 120 against the wall

Hi Nick,
Realising that you are new, perhaps if you take a picture or two of the stock you have and we can work it out from there? It might help with a possible design theme for anyone contemplating offering to draw a plan for you as well,
Cheers

I think either a drawing or a photo of the spacve available would be a great help Nick.  I think we're all getting a little at odds here.

Your suggested 145 x 120 is still very big if you need to reach over it.  Width (or depth, depending on which way round it is) really ought not to be much more than 90 cm. unless it's free standing and you can walk all round it :roll::roll:

Thanks guys
But I am going away for a few days so I wont be able to respond
If the board was 145x120cm I would be able to get to both 145 sides an one of the 120 sides
Sorry I can't send a pic at the moment as I am about to go away
When I get back I will send a pic of my space for the railway and my engines and carriages
