I have a Vitrains Blue Large logo class 37 I want to renumber. Has anyone got any tips on removing the printed number and nameplate without
having to respray or damaging the existing paintwork
Thanks in advance

I have always managed to achieve the required result using hot water with a tiny drop of soap and cotton-wool buds. Rubbity-rub with a little pressure to break the tampo print but not enough to damage the paintwork beneath and away she comes.
Another option I know of uses T-cut which is not a product I can obtain so cannot comment on its effectiveness.

Tampo prints are paint, not decals. Gentle abrasion (cotton buds or the like) work fine as long as the Tampo paint can come off the underlying surface. It also depends on whether the manufacturer sealed the underlying surface with a gloss or matt finish before Tampo printing or afterwards. Before is better than after as it will adhere less strongly to the finish coat than to the paint.
George Dent tried T-cut - takes the underlying paint off as the Tampo print appears to be quite thin. He ended up removing completely and respraying/decaling. Have you thought about using color patch decals for BR Blue? Fox do a set of blanking/obliteration rail blues - F4010. Might not be quite exact, but a bit of weathering will hide that.
