Noisy Dapol 'Manor'

I recently shelled out some of my limited funds on 'Draycott Manor'. It's a very nice model, and runs smoothly enough but, boy is it noisy! It hasn't got any better after an hour's running in, and I've realised it's almost all due to the vibration of the motor in the tender. Even a small weight such as a Peco track rubber placed on top of the tender reduces the noise level dramatically.

From what I've read elsewhere, this is just a feature of the way the model was designed and there's nothing much you can do about it, but I was wondering if others have had the same problem, and whether they found any way of quietening it? As it stands, the noise is unacceptable and, if I can't do something to improve it, I'll have to try and sell the loco on to someone who doesn't mind the racket…

Thanks,

Kev

I guess that could be an option Reg, or maybe wedging some non-combustible material in there. I don't want to do anything that might make it difficult to sell though (if it doesn't work). I'll take the tender apart tonight and see what's possible….

If it's new, I'd be inclined to send it back Kev.  If it's used, then packing something around the motor might do the trick - unless you'd really like to offload it.

So…I prised off the tender body with a view to reducing the vibration as above, but I found it still made just as much noise with the body off, so that's not the problem. I think the problem is actually that the small amount of vibration of the motor is being amplified by the wheels rattling in the bearings, where they are a fairly loose fit. It seems to me this is a feature of the way the pickup system has been designed, and there's not much I can do about it, other than maybe lubricate the bearings with some electrically conductive oil, but it will need to be some pretty viscous stuff to have any effect I think.
