Some photos of some of my more unique locomotives and stock

Over the past year I've developed some love of relatively unique locomotives and rolling stock. Here's a sample of some of my favorites

Rotary Snow Plow (Still figuring out how I wanna paint it)

Atlas N Scale Shay

Con-Cor N Scale Galloping Goose

  Hi Aunuli,

Great photos. I’ve always admired the Shays for their less conventional motion, while the rotary snow plough reminds me of a certain James Bond film, or perhaps even movie, where a baddie became an 007 quip! Have fun with the painting.

The star of the show for me though is that simply lovely Galloping Goose, as I seem to have developed a thing for rail cars.

Out of interest, can you get finescale N gauge track, as the rail height seems as large as the wheels!

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Bill,

I can get more properly scaled N scale track but as I have a large number of vintage models, the flanges on the wheels tend to hit the ties/sleepers below the rails on more appropriately scaled track. As such I am for the time being sticking with the less accurate but easier to use larger rail profile that I have found to be largely standard at least here in the US.

It also doesn't help that the Galloping Goose front truck/bogie has some of if not the smallest wheels I have ever seen on an N scale model. The only other model I can think of with similar sized wheels would be my vintage Bachmann 4-4-0. Everything else I have has at least twice the diameter of wheels

With thanks,
Aunuli

With me finally having moved to my new apartment I can post an update to this thread. I've started experimenting with hand painting and livery creation. With this in mind I'd like to officially introduce the YMRC to the Pal Creek & Rockwood Western (PC&RW) Railroad. This railroad is to serve as a fictional stand in for the various different railroads that operated within the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. This will be more important to note when I begin work on a layout of my own as I will be drawing inspiration directly from the Denver & Rio Grande, Colorado Southern, Colorado & Midland, and other steam era standard gauge and narrow gauge railways that operated within the Rockies of Colorado.

The PC&RW Livery is based partially on old Rio Grande green boiler locomotives with also inspiration from various UK liveries and the livery of the Great Northern Railroad.

Here's the first loco I've ever hand painted

And the associated rolling stock

I also painted the Rotary that was shown earlier in the thread

And after I did that I painted a second locomotive, it turned out much better than the first

All of these models are still being touched up and I bought custom decals to decal the logo for the PC&RW on the locos and stock as well as road numbers, railroad branding, and other misc decaling on all the stock. Once I am done with each they will get a spray on coat to seal everything and help prevent wear. The white lining incase anyone wondered I did with a paint pen and a sometimes steady hand.

PS: Is there a way to change the name of a thread, I would like to change this into the thread for my workbench like others have

Wow - they're hand painted ?

That's wonderful painting Aunuli - requiring a very steady hand in "O" Gauge but in "N" it's fantastic !!

Looking at your earlier collection of locos reminded me I have a "G" Scale Shay still sitting in it's box  which I must get out and run sometime …………..
