Running Hornby Dublo and Triang BR 0-4-0s on the kitchen table layout!

In my collecting of small models from yesteryear, I have come by these two little gems.

The Triang model is, of course, a version of the well known 'Nellie' type from the early 60s. Slightly unusual today in its black BR livery as most of these were for starter sets and so got played with to destruction.

The Hornby Dublo 0-4-0 is one of their final models before Hornby's takeover by Triang Rovex, and quite difficult to get hold of today. I imagine, not being three-rail and being made from plastic, most Dublo collectors are not interested, and not being a Triang model, Triang collectors will be equally not interested!

Anyhow, a short video on Youtube of the two running together. I believe this is the first video of the Dublo model running on the internet!

More information about the models on the Youtube page.

If anyone remembers these, or even owns one, please let me know.

All the best

Gordon :-)

I had one of the “Polly” versions paired with a GWR auto coach when I was young and knew no better.
Luckily I grew out of the GWR. :mutley

GWR – they made those green engines, didn't they?

I used to have a Nellie many years ago, and when I started collecting model railway items again I was very pleased to find another Nellie, and then I started collecting her sisters too!

Happy memories

Fabulous bit of history - many thanks for posting.

As nippers, our only "electric" locomotive was a Gaiety Pannier tank, the other locos were all clockwork. Then Scalextric, RC ships. cars, girls, one of whom was lucky enough to be selected by me as a wife, then chidren etc. all got in the way of model railways …………………………..until now !!   :cool wink

Interesting to see that you started with a Pannier Peter and have since upgraded it to a singing and dancing variety.

I think it's time you came out and proudly declared yourself a lover of IKBs finest railway!

You'll be in good company!

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Funny you should mention the Gaiety Pannier. We inherited one a while back from my father in law who had not done model railways for some time. It was very battered, humbrol painted and had no chassis.
I never do things quickly, so it took a few months, but I am quite pleased with the results, although the HMRS transfers were disappointing to say the least!

It weighs a ton, being a metal body on a Triang chassis, and it does run very well indeed!

I am working on a Gaiety N2 and hope to do a video of them both at some point in the future.

All the best,

Gordon
