Generic pre-grouping 4 and 6 wheeled RTR coaching stock

Probably not for the purist , but an easy route in for early passenger stock, particularly for those not wanting to build, bash, paint and line kits and they appear to tick many boxes regards specifications.

I'll not stop building and bashing though, to represent prototype examples and will still collect Triang panelled stock at the right price!

I'm sure they will be popular, although quite a wait until the first batch.

I don't know how accurate these will be, but for those of us doing any modelling of pre-grouping railways, they will be welcomed - beggars can't be choosers, and as long as they look reasonable, I'm sure they'll sell well. In the past I have been content to compromise and use the old shortie Triang Clerestory coaches with modifications, and even a couple of Ratio GWR 4-wheelers converted to 6-wheel coaches. As such, I think the Hatton's initiative will fill a void nicely.

I know they're not totally prototypical but I will be getting a few, especially considering they come with lights and are DCC ready. Much better than Hornby's four wheel offerings they have been doing for donkey's years and have no resemblance to any prototype.

Tempting items, especially for a branch line. For the GWR at the moment it's a Ratio kit, with or without etched side panels and ends (where the total come to more than Hatton's estimated price) or scratch build. The Hornby 4-wheeler is not worth the trouble.

Bit generic, but as Bill said, unless you are a purist they do the job. What strikes me is that there is a potential source of RTR 4 and 6 wheel chassis for those early siphons (which is what the GWR used). At not much more than a kit to build the chassis, along with the bonus of a grounded body for an office or storeroom (or even a shed in the fields). Cheap enough for some cut and shut as well.


The only thing missing is a family or senior staff saloon. Easy enough to do. And of course an all chocolate or crimson lake paint scheme instead of gravy and mashed potatoes.
