Just delivered. Dapol ready to run O gauge Autocoach. A revelation in modern model production all for £199 and worth every penny to the like of me who hasn't a clue on how to glue 'A' to 'B' with a modicum of success and, indeed, without drama.
Now I know there's folk on here who could scratch build one of these standing on their head but, be honest, would you want to when you can get something as wonderful as this for just a couple of hundred quid ?

Anyway, here's a few pictures of it posed behind another RTR marvel - a Minerva GWR Pannier.

Oooh! Snap Allan.  I just posted pictures of the maroon coach and black Pannier in my Coach and Loco workbench threads.  They are brilliant.  I agree, building a kit of such a thing would be very time consuming.  I'll build kits if there's nothing RTR.

With your skills, John, and from what I've seen of your work, building anything that runs on rails should be no problem whether it's a kit or built from raw materials.

Now gonna have a look at your maroon version.

The Hornby 4mm version ain't that bad either. Here it be behind Hattons superb 14XX. Got it off Ebay used for 20 quid.

Yes, ex Airfix as was the 14XX, I had both way back.  I put a Perserverance etched chassis under the 14XX and it ran great.  It couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but it could manage the coach which was all I asked of it.

Looks like a good one Allan and the Hattons 0-4-2T is divine (I succumed to two of them!). Strangely enough, I picked up a new Hornby autocoach a few months ago on a UK visit. I say strangely, as I hadn't even realised Hornby had just reissued this old (early 1980s?) Airfix tooled coach yet again and neither did the model shop chappie, who thought it was an earlier edition that had slipped down the back of the shelf! Fortunately, it has a new, crisp paint job and looks fab and groovy with its mahogany coloured droplights, just like the new Hornby Collet bow ended stock. It just retains all the faults of the original Airfix tooling. At least it can be updated with the Dart Castings detail kit, which also turns it into one of two actual diagrams.

I'm still lusting after something a little older and different though, so am sending Dapol extra good Christmas karma to shrink their 7mm to 4mm for Yuletide next year!

Sorry John, I didn't see your post before, as mine was resting on my laptop a while, as I had to replace some spot lamps way up in the harder to reach places!

At least your 14xx has an ash pan, which should be an easy fix on the Hattons version.
