Bargain Dapol Class 22?

I think I've managed a decent bargain from the 'Bay' the other day. I spotted a Dapol Class 22, D6316, 6 months old, like new, supplied with Hattons invoice from March this year for £103 (it's current price there), ESU Loksound fitted with Howes sound (currently £117.50) so a total of £220.50, and was the only bidder, getting it for £149. All the added bits are still sealed in the bags, and the whole loco looks and runs like brand new, so I'm well pleased with that. I reckon I've caught the same "Oooooh, Shinies" disease that Toto suffers from,- all I know is that this is the 6th new loco I've bought in the last 2 months. Is there treatment or a cure for this, and do I care anyway? Nah, as long as SWMBO doesn't find out how much I've spent!!!

No, no known cure for "the shinies". Treatment is to supply the patient with new "shinies" frequently, with no regard whatsoever for bank balances, credit limits, etc.

I have been lucky on eBay a few times as well, buying bargain sound-fitted locos for essentially the price of the sound decoder alone, or less. The bargains are out there, if you are patient and keep looking.

There is no known cure for "The Shinies" as Jeff says.

There is however one way to ease the effects and that is to buy more shinies.  That can sometimes have a side-effect on your bank / credit balance however.

Those Dapol 22s are very good little engines.  Basically the work of Dave Jones who quit Dapol soon after they were released they have some design features you don't find from the larger manufacturers.

I like the clip-in skirt panels.  While they can be a pain if they fall out (which some locos seem to suffer from but not others) they can be shown with one or two prototypically missing.  The wheels will collect current reliably from even quite mucky rails and it's not too hard to break in and insert internal headcode blinds and crew if you wish.

The only thing I don't like about them is the toy-train style as-supplied headcodes; those are designed to look realistic when lit but don't and should show up when not lit -but don't.  See above.
