Hi All, I have a need to move some Triang loco wheels in order to increase the Back to Back has anybody any ideas about doing this - I have done it in the past but cannot remember how. Also, whilst I know that Markits produce suitable axles to directly replace Triang ones and enable the fitting of their wheels has anyone any idea if Markits are still a 'going concern' I've tried emailing and calling by 'phone but had no response. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I did remove some triang wheels on an old dock shunter chassis but ended up with broken insulation spacers on one wheel, and the other side would not budge.

So, good luck with this and I look forward to a better responce to your question than mine!

In the past I have removed the rods, motor etc then clamping the chassis into a vice and using a centre punch on the axle with the insulating sleeve tap it gently with a small pin hammer, checking as you go. Easier to do than to describe.

I'm old, that's why I'm allowed to change my mind, when I can find it.

Mark can be a bit hit or miss when it comes to answering the phone - he is a one man show, AFAIK, and s very busy.Currently his catalogue is off line for updating and he has been catching up on backlogs of orders but it is worth persevering with him.

Hi Simon,

I have in the past used the NWSL wheel/axle puller/pusher to pull wheels out while on the chassis, as said the older they are the more reluctant they are. Very often the axles  are short, with a back to back as low as 13.2mm.Those old wheel treads and flanges can run poorly on newer track when pulled out, and the wheels/rods/crossheads often foul the body. Which often means positioning the pistons further out…

I calibrated it so I knew how many turns/mm.

Try writing to Markits.

Nigel

Thanks for the notes about Markits, will wait until the New Year now and have another try - or as suggested drop him a line.

I managed to contact Mark by phone this afternoon - took a few attempts, but that is par for the course for him - and ordered some wheels. He is very busy making drivers from new castings and is giving this priority just now. His catalogue is also off line as it needs serious updating, which will not be any time soon from what I made out. Some comment on his individual phone style, but I have always got on with him and he has proved helpful many times over the years.

Try again later next week when the world starts to settle back to what passes for normality….
