Hello, my name is Brian Twigg, my address is
Rotherham, Sth Yorks’.   ( Not particularly proud of that address at the moment
)
I am 75 years old, 76 on the 21st of October, born 1938 in Rotherham.
My email address is :- brian.twigg@virginmedia.com

My forum name is gtmspyder, because I built my daughter a GTM Spyder kit
car, I have also built my son a QUANTUM 2+2 sports car and my grandson a half
size series 2 Land Rover, from plans obtained from Toylander, ( Real Life Toys
).
I have modelled in 00,  EM,  and currently 009.
I built my Grandson a 009 rabbit layout for his 5th Christmas.
I am building in 009, a model of a Scottish scene on the old Callander and
Oban line in Glen Ogle, central Perthshire, closed in August 1965 by a landslide
in Glen Ogle, while scheduled to close under Dr Beeching’s auspices in September
1965.  I have imagineered that the redundant track base was bought by some
narrow gauge enthusiasts, who are building a narrow gauge tourist line linking
Lochearnhead  on Loch Earn, and Killin, on Loch Tay, and particularly featuring
the 12 arch viaduct that lies on the slopes of Glen Ogle.  This ex rail bed is
now part of the national cycle and walkway.
I am a member of the 009 society, and on the forums of the 009 society,
Narrow gauge railway modelling, and Narrow gauge railway and branch line
modelling forums.
I found your forum while looking for a link to Alan Downs, a
modeller I greatly admire.
I like making things, and have made two violins and a viola for my son and
daughter, a twenty note barrel organ for my grandsons seventh birthday, and lots
of DIY around the house for my wife of fifty five years.

I’ll attach one or two pictures from my layout under construction, which
incidentally, is radio controlled. The main feature of the layout, is
the viaduct.

The landslide that closed the line in 1965'

The Lochearnhead garage at the bottom of the Glen.

Some road works on the A84 in Glen Ogle.

Kind regards,
Brian.

Hi Brian :Welcome

1st of all, I wouldn't take the Rotherham episode to heart as personally, I don't think there is a burgh up and down the country that does not have their skeletons in the burgh closet. It's unfortunate that your's just seems to be getting the publicity at the moment.

On a cheerier note …….. I have passed through Glenogle hundreds of times on the way up to where I used to have my caravan pitched at Glendochart.

You have the scene captured to a T. Absolutely fantastic. I have walked along the Viaduct going from Lochearnhead up through Glenogle and walking further down to either Kilin or along past the Luib to Glendochart.

My Caravan was pitched on the old platform at Glendochart and one of the sites residents worked on the railway in that very area. He actually assisted in building the stone building where the water tower was built on top of. The stone building still exists to this day ( minus the water tank ) and now houses the main incoming electricity supply to the caravan site.

It is fantastic to see someone model this and make such a great job of it. I'll be keeping an eye on you thread as Glenogle and the surrounding area has a special place in my heart.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for these fantastic images.

Cheers

Toto

G'day Brian,

Welcome aboard from a damp and grey Sydney… The pics of your layout look superb and the viaduct is stunning piece of modelling. Looking foward to seeing more of this.

Cheers, Gary.

Hi Brian and welcome to the YMRC, I've been here 2 days now and must say have been made to feel very, very welcome.

One question, "What do you do with your spare time?"

Regards

Mike

Hello Toto, I'm pleased you recognised the area I'm attempting to model. it's very pleasing to think that someone who knows the area in Scotland I am modeling, even with modellers licence, can recognise that beautiful area, I used to be a caravaner myself, and often stayed at the Caravan Club Maragowan site in Killin.
There is a blow by blow account of the build so far on the "009 Societies forum", and on the "Narrow Gauge Railway Modelling on Line" forum from conception to the state you see it now if you want to see it warts annall.
I don't know that I want to go through all the posts on the other two forums and transfer them onto here????
I am still finding my way around this new to me site!!

Kind regards,

BrianT.
