After building the replacement loading gauge I decided that the plastic Ratio yard crane was another weak link so after hunting around the scrap box I came up with this.
Built from some brass angle and flats with a few bits salvaged from the original Ratio model.
I am indebted to Geoff (Sparky) of FRMW forum for providing me with a suitable drawing.
It still needs cleaning up a bit more and then painting. Can anyone tell me what colour? I'm sure that they were not always black in BR days.
Looking at Monochrome pictures I have of the yard at Aberaeron, the crane there is a much lighter shade than it would be if it was all black.( Brown maybe?)
Here's another couple of shots.
Once I know the correct colour I'll paint it up and post another picture.

[For those watching in black and white, the gears and pulleys are black and the framework is in GWR dark stone [faded]

What a great job you have made of your scratchbuilt crane i can see you have spent many hours building it.
Is this for the narrow gauge layout?

Brian, The crane is for my Pen Y Bont layout so is 4mm scale.
It will replace the Ratio kit plastic one that always seems to get knocked when I try to couple up the 3 links in the goods yard!
Doug, Thanks for the picture via PM. I have that picture, it was posted by Andy Y on RMWeb some time ago. Unfortunately it shows the crane in it's GWR colours not in what BR painted them after nationalisation. There are also some bits missing from that crane as you can tell.
I think I am going to go with an all over brown colour apart from the gears wheels and chain etc. Unless I get a positive confirmation of something different.
Cheers for now.
