I wonder does anyone have a pkt of these and could advise me.

I plan to order some but don't know how many packs to get - potentailly annoying and costly!

So, qs is - how many posts are there in a pkt - or does it say on the pkt what length can be produced?

The answer to this one would be a big help as I live "in the wilds" and have to get everything in the post.

Thanks

Adrian

According to Catalogue & websites - 36 posts so it all depends on spacing that you want to use. - anywhere from 3 ft to 9 ft long I suppose.

Fence posts are easy to make out of match sticks or square section plastic rod.

Just a thought.

yeah, appreciate that, but think of all those holes to mark out and drill - even if using a jig!!

The chap at Old Colwyn will probably have some in stock to look at - if you can catch him open.

The Ratio ones do not have holes in them, you still have to drill these out yourself.

You get 50 posts with holes in their SR style concrete fence kit #419 [I just counted them] plus gates, taps with drains, signs and cow pats.

I have a couple of packs of this item.  My experience is not wonderful though if you can get the nylon wire provided to stick in the grooves moulded in the posts it isn't all that bad.

The posts are quite chunky and can look over scale; they come out at almost 5' tall if you don't trim them.

I had a lot of trouble with the nylon wire.  It wants to retain the curve it has had in the pack despite steaming it to try and straighten it out.  It's a pain to stick to the posts.  I tried fixing the posts first then adding the wire without much success.  I then tried assembling the whole thing on the bench first with no success.

It is possible to drill through the posts, with the finest bit you can find and a great deal of patience, and feed the wire through but the posts do have mouldings on to take glued wire.  It is also tricky to paint it (I tried both enamels and acrylics with little success) so it can still look like green nylon if you're not careful.

The "run" of a fence made with this stuff depends on how closely you space your posts.

Despite my comments it is in use at several places around the layout and some posts are in use without the nylon wire, or with fuse wire threaded through drilled holes, which will weather naturally and accepts acrylic "rust" paint.

Thanks very much indeed to everyone for their very helpful comments on this subject

whilst awaiting your advice I did a bit more searching on the Net and located the following site - if you scroll down a bit you'll find how this guy went about the posts and wire

see http://www.009.cd2.com/members/how_to/fencing.htm

thanks again

Adrian,

This site is the home of "County Gate"  which is my favourite layout. The scenery has to be seen to be believed. Should you have the opportunity of seeing this layout at an exhibition, take it.

Adrian - here is another option for you to look at.  This version from Ten Commandments is white metal posts with nylon wire and they say the pack will do about 1 metre.  From the enlarged photograph it looks like the posts are drilled.  Ten Commandments do some good stuff.

Select 00 scale in left hand menu and then click on Walls, Fencing and Pavements

Good luck
