Based on John Allen's Timesaver

Started laying the track, but I've decided it needs to be nearer the front of the board to allow for some low relief buildings against the backscene.

I also think I might try some sort of point control, rather than 'the hand of god'.




 

Having a bit of a problem with the Peco flexitrack.

In 00 an N scales the track is easier to bend, and I could push the rails through the sleepers quite easily. Because the TT120 track has the rails imbedded in a slot within the sleepers, it doesn't seem possible to push the rails through to any great extent. The results are in the pictures.
 


 

Think I've got to grips with the Peco TT120 flexitrack, it's currently weighted down while the glue dries.

You can't move the rails in the sleepers very easily, so the answer is to cut the track at both ends.

You can't slide the sleepers to fill the caps at the rail joints either, but Peco sell additional sleepers for the gaps.

Interesting Thanks for reminding me why I don't use Peco N track. I went back and found my notes - heat the end of the track with an electric hairdryer, cut the sleepers off, and use copper-clad replacements. No rail joiners. These days I use Gapmaster rail joiners, and no conventional rail joiners. Atlas  N (code 80 and code 55) and Kato N (code 65 I think) flex track rails slide easily through the sleepers, so sliding them through is not difficult. Kato is a bit too easy, there is no resistance with either rail.  How are you attaching the rails to the replacement sleepers? The replacement ones look good.

I thought Kato N was code 80 Nigel.

The 'joiner sleepers' as Peco calls them, just have two channels in them for the rails to sit in.

I'm not attaching the rails to the sleepers, but holding the sleeper in place with dab of glue on the cork underlay.

I went and checked some KATO N flex track - 2.1mm/0.083" (0.08267"), so code 83. Why I was thinking code 65? It matches Atlas N code 80, that 0.003" is not worth worrying about. I suspect that the rail code used comes from Japanese N being 1:150, not 1:160. Equivalence to code 80 would be code 85. Maybe that's why I was thinking of something with a 5.

Replacement sleepers. Your picture shows how deep the cut for the rail section is. You're more trusting than me. I presume it's a reasonably tight fit at the rail foot. I'd be reaching for the epoxy or CAA gel.

The replacement sleepers are just cosmetic Nigel and I think the deep cut is to allow room for rail joiners.

If the whole lot is ballasted, they won't move anyway.

 

Nothing much done recently I'm afraid, as what started as a promise to myself to wash he living room curtains and repaint the dark feature wall has turned into having the hallway, stairwells and landings painted and attempting to totally redecorate the living room myself.

Now the hallway is painted it shows up how badly the kitchen needs repainting  

Why on earth did I start this  

I've only got to cut 4 pieces of flexitrack for the sidings and solder droppers the on, then it's figure out what to do about a fiddle yard. I've always fancied some sort of traverser, but it's a very small layout.

I'll maybe use it as NEXT weeks Jigsaw, cos I'm ONLY just reading this, yup late to class again but just to be clear, thats not last weeks jigsaw as that would have been before your post, and not this weeks Jigsaw as I've just done that one BEFORE reading your post, so NEXT weeks Jigsaw, which will probably be too late as you will have finished the decorating, done the trackwork, built and tested a traverser, and probably built ANOTHER plank !

For those who don't do the Jigsaw, why not ? All you need is a computer, then download the zip file and open, It's a self contained program so you don't need any other software
