Build a roadbed to create a Bridge

Hi All                  In the run up to my layout (a long time coming) I have purchased various Kits to get the scale "Correct".But now I have gone a bridge too far, the Peco L K 10 which is sold with "Sides Only", I am waiting to hear from Peco about a safe Adhesive to use with the Plastic. In the mean time can anyone out there shed some light on the subject?? and even suggest the best material for the trackbed??                    Thankyou in anticipation all the best  Kevin

Hi Kevin, I imagine the bridge sides will be made of a similar plastic as used in most plastic kits so a solvent adhesive like mecpac would be suitable, as for the track bed there are many products you could use, plasticard for instance you would be able to stick the bridge sides directly to it with solvent, or ply, I would use a contact adhesive for that something like evostic, not the awful solvent free stuff, its rubbish!, but you would have to be careful as it can melt some plastics just use it sparingly, I am sure there will be more suggestions to come just choose what you are comfortable with. The sides of the kit need to be glued to a timber support like this :



I would recommend something like 'No Nails' to glue plastic kit to timber supports.

Another option is to scratchbuild a styrene support structure under the plate girders similar to this :

Most 'good' hobby shops stock styrene. There is a variety of brand names available from 'Plastruct', 'Evergreen Styrene' and also 'Slaters'.

Alternatively, you could order online. Plastruct and Evergreen Styrene do all the I beams and H beams sections. :thumbs
