getting sound functions to activate correctly

As with most things with RR&Co nothing seems to be easy the first time around.

having come to grips with most ( but not all) aspects of setting up schedules I thought i would go to the next step and set up a schedule where the START operations would include activating some of the loco's sound decoders functions prior to the loco moving off.

after two hours of trial and error I am resorting to assistance as I am unable to get the loco to run through some  steam functions before it starts moving. The SYSTEM OPERATION "DELAY" does not appear to make much difference.

Any ideas?:hmm

Just got home from a band gig, so I have to change heads, Dave.

There are two main ways of activating loco functions.  One is to write them into the decoder process, so that every time it starts it toots the horn, etc.  It will then do it automatically every time.  The second way is to map them to a function button.  This way you can fire it off when you want to.

Let's say for example, you want to play the station announcement before the train moves off.  You map it to say, Function button 5.  Then you add it to the loco profile as button 5 and enter it as a push button.

When you are writing the Start List for the Schedule, you put that button number in the list (with a .5 second delay each side of it.)

There is a third way of doing it.  That is by putting a marker in the Block to trigger the function.  I have done that with the bell to make it start ringing as it enters the Yard Limits.

Is any of that helpful?  I can do some screen shots or put in a link to a video if I'm on the right path.

Max,

This is a copy of my START OPERATIONS list that I am playing with.

I am trying to set the schedule so that the loco runs through a sound sequence before it starts to move.
I can get the sound sequence to work ( although it needs a far bit of work yet) but I can't get the loco to stay stationary until the sequence has completed.

Have you tried using the record button ??  I have used it on a number of occasions but it does not appear to work in recording the sequence of train operations - otherwise it is very handy

No.  I haven't tried the record button, Dave.

I'm still thinking about the way you have arranged the sound files to play.  The process seems to be quite long.  It might have to be a separate Schedule which preceeds the running Schedule.  That is to say, a one Block Schedule which has the moving off Schedule as its Successor.

Like I said, I'm thinking while I'm writing this.  The Start List is 14 seconds long.  By that time the loco is into the next Block.

What do you think of the idea of a one block Schedule?  I don't even know at this stage if it would work.  I might have a play with it on my layout and get back to you.

I'm not sure how it would fit with your operation, but I do know that my loco plays the coupler sounds once it has stopped.  Is it possible to put them in the End List of the previous Schedule?

Clutching at straws here.

Dave easy one that, in schedule rules tab delay the sched start long enough so the sound sequence is complete.

I have a sched where I have doors slamming, buzzers buzzing, whistles blowing etc which takes 25 secs to do, so I delayed the start by 30 secs in the rules tab.

Regards
Pete.

ECOS2 with RR&Co Traincontroller and a load of other electronics so i can sit back and watch the trains go by.

Actually, come to think of it; that might be the way to fix my problem with the shut down in Schedule 8.  I'll give it a few more seconds and see if it works.  As Arnold Schwartiewotzie would say, "Yooou're a chenius!"

You're still a cheenius, Pete; but it didn't fix the problem.  Here's the rub:-  First run after I fire up the computer, the engine doesn't obey the shut down command at the end of Schedule 8.  From then on, subsequent runs - it does!  Go figure .. .
