Post any questions arising from "First Steps with RR&Co"

Hi Matt.

I'm not trying to run TC with the server on.  I was trying to show that the L1 will still connect to Zug/Decoder Pro applications, so it must still have a pathway.  I have the server off when I'm trying to run TC.

As soon as I launch TC, I get an error message telling me that TC can't connect with the digital system.

After I had a bit of a go at Juergen he got back to me asking for screen shots of what I'm doing, so he's trying to help.

I'm starting to find out that I'm not the only one struggling with TC, Brian.  It's very complex and functional, so it doesn't take much to throw it off.

What gets up my skirt is throw away stock answers when I put my hand up with a problem.  It may well be my computers at fault.  I'm surprised that it's happening to two of them.

After the recent crash, it took several fresh downloads before TC would even open again.  It seems to be very unstable and I may need to download an extra driver to help it run.

Max give Itrain a whirl

Xander will give you a 2 monthe trial licence no dongle either:lol:

Its not as complex as Railroad &co but may well be able to do all you want with your tram layout.

Its only an 83 page manual:lol::lol:

Plus it will test if your Lenz system is connecting right to the computer because if I train can connect theres no reason why railroad &co cant

I hear what you say, Brian.  I've go so much invested with TC now, I have to persevere.  After I got a bit grumpy on the RR&Co forum others are starting to get involved.  Even Juergen is working direct with me to identify the problem.

It's a one man owner, but the beta testers are also there.  While it's just annoying that you have to rattle their cage to get their attention, I have to keep reminding myself of the relatively tiny community we are - and TC is an even smaller part.

Like with Loksound, I'll keep hammering away at them until they give up their secrets.

Hi Max, I have just looked through your thread on the RR&Co forum to see if I could help in any way. One thing you say is that you are unable to see a Lenz LI/USB option in the Digital Connections.

Mine is set up for ZTC and LDT HSI-88, but I have just tried hitting the "ADD" button in Setup digital systems, and the Lenz Digital Plus/USB shows up fourth in the list, just after the Lenz Digital Plus/ LI101F.

If that does not appear at all in your list, I think there must be something very wrong with your download?

Yep.  It's there, Geoff.  It just doesn't work.

I've sent Juergen some screen shots of my error messages.  He's working on it.  Cheers

hi Max

go to device manager and locate the L1\usb, right click and un install, you will get a warning message, click OK, go to options at the top and scan for hardware changes. this will un install the usb and should pick up the device and re install the drivers. if not just use the lenz disk.

i have done this with other devices such as ethernet controllers and it fixed the problem.

Thanks, Matt.

Juergen made the mistake of having a go at me on the forum in his broken English.

I fired back and now he's not talking to me.

What a way to run a railroad.  :exclam    :Red Card

Thank you Matt.   :Happy

I checked the Server on the L1 and it was working, but TC was not.

That is a nifty way of uninstalling it, by the way.  :thumbs

Anyway, I uninstalled it and it got hung up until I selected Drivers; and away it went!

I don't know what it did, but TC is back on the air.  I know it is, because I can move the turnout motors.

Next time you're in Adelaide, I owe you a beer.  :cheers

I wonder how long it will be before I hear from Juergen.   :mutley

Don't worry about that, Matt.

I have a new problem.  TC freezes after a few minutes.  If I switch off and back on again, I can make some more changes, but then the cursor freezes again.

I've opened Zug and I'm letting it sit a while to see if it freezes as well.  If it does, then it's not TC.  It's probably not TC anyway, the L1 just doesn't seem to like it.

It looks like I'll have to get my computer man around to give it a good talking to.  :hmm

SWMBO just went past and made some derrogatory remarks.  :thud

right click on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen, select task manager and then the performance tab.

have a play about with ZUG and TC and look at the CPU usage %. you will see what i am on about. it maybe that you need some more RAM as when data is transfered it may be shooting up to 100% using all the RAM and freezing the laptop. it is an easy fix by inserting more Ram. my Dell 610 is very slow and old and sometimes freezes.

You could well be right. Matt.  I just upgraded the ram on one of my other D 600s.  Interestingly, I left Zug on for about an hour, then I went back to TC and it hasn't frozen yet for some strange reason.

I'll get some more ram organised tomorrow.

I appreciate your help.  :thumbs

I just sat and watched the CPU usage, Matt.  It ticks along at up to 45%, but uses the full 100% during start up - as does Zug.  It looks like I don't have enough head room.

What would I do without you  :question

It's interesting that this forum has been much more help than the RR&Co one.   :hmm

Despite the occasional freeze and crash.  I've now got two locos running together on automatic reversing through two double slips.  It's great to watch TC controlling the speed of the locos and move the Tortoise motors to avoid collisions, as they traverse back and forth.

The double slips each end challenge TC, as it occasionally has to slow one of them while the motors change.  What with engine sounds, toots when they move off and brakes with air release when they stop, it really is amazing . . . and I haven't started making up schedules yet.  :thumbs
