RR&Co Computor Control: Discussion

Post any questions arising from "First Steps with RR&Co"

Just touching base re your earlier, John.  It was the process I did before.  I repeated it, viz:  Start - Control Panel - Admin. Tools - Computer Management -  Storage> Disc Management - Format.

A warning came up that Formatting will delete all the files, which it did.  The stick is now blank again, and it still won't open TC.

Now for a cold shower.    Brrrrrrrrrr

Thats not quite what I suggested…….

[1] Go to RR&Co and download a fresh version of Train Controller

[2] Move your layout files to another directory

[3] Print out the FAQs on Petes thread

[4] Follow the detailed instructions in the FAQs…step by step…..and very slowly   …………record your computors reaction to each step as you carry it out

I think it is very important that the correct sequence, as described in the FAQs, of inserting the stick, booting the computor and booting TC are very carefully followed

If we are lucky the new version of TC will, on booting, repair your stick and recognise the code

If we are unlucky you will have a detailed step by step report to present to Mr Freiwald on Monday……….my guess is he will ask for this anyway so if nothing else my suggestion will save time

[1] Go to RR&Co and download a fresh version of Train Controller   I have already downloaded a fresh version of RR&Co TC on to my desktop computer.

[2] Move your layout files to another directory     I don't have any layout files on this download as yet.

[3] Print out the FAQs on Petes thread  I have already printed out the FAQs   I followed exactly the procedure in number 12.

[4] Follow the detailed instructions in the FAQs…step by step…..and very slowly   …………record your computors reaction to each step as you carry it out   The computer had no reaction other than to warn me that Formatting would delete everything in the stick.  Which it subsequently did.

I think it is very important that the correct sequence, as described in the FAQs, of inserting the stick, booting the computor and booting TC are very carefully followed     I can't see any description in the FAQs of the sequence of inserting the stick.  There is a sequence which shows when TC starts up.  It asks you to insert the stick at the time of the request for the code.

If we are lucky the new version of TC will, on booting, repair your stick and recognise the code   We are not lucky as yet.

If we are unlucky you will have a detailed step by step report to present to Mr Freiwald on Monday……….my guess is he will ask for this anyway so if nothing else my suggestion will save time

Interestingly, FAQ number 14 advises sending the stick to the contact address for a replacement.  Maybe Jurgen is just waiting for me to send the stick back and isn't likely to reply.

I must admit that I'm a bit loath to send it to Germany in case I never see it again.

It's nearly time for ddolfelin Man.  Remember DCC Supplies?  We might still have to call on the Super Hero.    :pedal:cool wink  :mutley

What happened with DCC supplies Max?  I was thinking about buying something pricey from them.  Should I reconsider?

cheers

Neil, i don't know what the problem with DCC Supplies was either, however i do use them regularly including buying my ECOS from them and find them great to deal with.

Its now Monday morning and we must await the arrival of Herr Freiwald with bated breath to see if our mate Max gets sorted.

Regards
Pete.

Neill the problem Max had with dcc supplies was sorted it was to do with some Bass reflex speakers he paid for but failed to arrive they failed to reply to his emails regarding them so DD sorted them out from here in the UK and Max recieved the replacements fine.

Normally dcc supplies are fine to deal with dont worry any probs and you will have at least 30 members who can physically man handle them on the 4th and 5th of September as Andy and Fiona the owners are at the show.

I ordered some bass reflex speakers from them, Neil.  They failed to arrive.  DCC supplies wouldn't answer my emails.  Sound familiar?  Anyway ddolfelin sent them one of his special letters and suddenly they began to return my emails and finally sent me another shipment - which they are required to do by British Law.  I think some other members of the forum may have mentioned it to them as well at exhibitions, but no one's making any admissions.

I have been to my local post office and they have a registered letter bag which I can use to send the stick back to Jurgen.  He may well refuse to sign for it; in which case it comes back to me.  I'll leave it for a few more days before I send it off.

I have used the Irish Mafia before, but they tend to make you an offer you can't understand.

Thanks for that folks.  I have used them a fair bit before for speakers and DCC components but was going to get the new radio control for ECoS from them.  I hadn't had any problems before so thought I'd better check that out.

Cheers

Everyone will be pleased to hear that Jurgen has sent me a code to "enter into my stick."

There were no instructions as to how to actually do it and given how compillit I am, I am very nervous about having a go at it.

Would someone care to suggest a "Blow by blow" so I don't cock it up, please?

To be fair Neil, I plan to buy a Lenz upgrade kit from them, but with all this business with RR&Co, I have been a bit distracted.  I'm pretty confident that when they see my order, all will be well.   (There may be a stink bomb in it, though).  Only Joking!!

That is good news, Max. What I would do is to start up TC with the stick already plugged in just as it is, blank.

Then in the opening dialogue window, I would type the code he has sent you (assuming it is something you can read!!) into the space asking for the license code, and then see what happens next. Hopefully TC will write the code into the stick and you won't have to enter again provided that the stick is plugged in (wanted to include an Emoticon of fingers crossed, but I can't see one)

Thats great news Max, i can't think of a better way other than what Geoff has suggested. The "self fixing" seems to start by bunging the stick in and starting the program. Go on enter the code it can't get any worse.

Good luck!:doublethumb

I guess its night time in Australia. The suspense is killing me!

Jurgen and Max both emailed  me and I replied to Max by email suggesting the same approach as Geoff and Pete

Now we just have to wait with bated breath!

The result is not good, men.  TC says that it's not a valid code.  I've emailed Jurgen with the result and asked for more help.  At least we're communicating, now.  :thumbs
