Just got up (Sunday morning), so I'm working my way through your comments.

John, there is no way I hold you or anyone here responsible for my problem.  I understand that with any mass produced products, like sticks, there will be the occasional one with a glitch in it.

This is quite a complicated software exercise and Jurgen Freiwald has chosen to use the USB stick to protect his intellectual property and preserve his business going forward.  It isn't clear going in that that is how it will be as others have said, but theoretically it shouldn't be a problem - and it seems that it usually isn't.

Some of the instructions on the forum are in English translated from German and are a bit hard to follow for a non-geek like I am, but Matt did his best to interpret them.

I am happy to post the stick back to Jurgen or to do any other thing he may request so as to resolve this problem, but having parted with a significant amount of money, it's putting the breeze up my skirt that I'm getting no response from him.

I'm used to things going awry in this hobby.  It seems to be my lot.  Sol will tell you.  If it's going to go pear shaped, I'm your man.  That's why I have been so pedantic; stolidly building the new layout plank by plank, testing as I go and not moving forward until I'm confidenteverything is in place.

You may well be right.  Jurgen may be in the south of France getting a tan, but being a one man business myself, I'm surprised that he doesn't continuously monitor his customers.  Even on the World Stage, if you do a good job your customer will tell another person.  If there is a problem, he will tell ten people - or potentially more if you have a forum on the internet.

Heartfelt thanks to all of you who have tried to help.  Hopefully Jurgen will surface soon and we can start to work it out.

I'm going to check the RR&Co forum to see if there have been any developments.

Totally agree Max, there is no excuse. i am a key member of a large organisation and have to keep in touch so we have Blackberries and anything urgent is dealt with, even if i am  holiday. In sunny Spain Freiwald can log on and deal with problems, either that you leave someone to mind the shop, it's his bread and butter. I get a feeling he knows he has an outstanding product but is arrogant with it, just my opinion. Then again the chap could be dealing with a family crisis so we must give him the benefit before we hang him.

Regards
Pete.

I don't expect much.  Just an email saying, "I see you've got a problem, Cobber.  Hang in there until Monday and I'll get back to you."  Customers don't care what sort of a crisis you might be having, Pete.  They just want service - even politeness would be a start.

True Max, even an out of office reply would of been something at least you know the guy is alive and well.

i take it there is still no activity on the RR&Co forum. Hang on in there mate he can't dispute anything it didn't work and this thread is evidence.

I take the bloody thing hasn't rebooted itself either?

Regards and sympathy.

Keep the pressure up on them Max you never know you may get offered a reduced price licensce for the R & Co 4D sound package:lol::lol: I wonder if that has a dongle?

Im surprised that none of you R &Co guys have not bought that as it seems looking at it a very good way a bringing sound quite cheaply to your layouts

It has been half term holidays from school over here max .possibly Germany too. i would not think the guy is an out and out crook.and will want to preserve his reputation or he is finished ,railway modelers being a close community. I would agree with Sol he should have some sort of voice mail or answer machine . even ( or especially) a "one man band" I can well understand your anxiety, but i would think a couple more days leeway should do it ,before firing your big guns.

Max i will pm over to you the files off my stick that are visibleour stick to see if they do anthing you have nothing to lose. you can load them on y, i suspect there is a hidden partition that you may not have damaged when you formatted security settings usually password protected wouldn't allow it.

All my locos are fitted with the finest Loksound hand made sound systems, Brian.    If he offers it to me I'll pass it on.  :thumbs

I don't think he's a crook either, Reg.  Just a bit lacking in the manners Department.

If you want to email the files to me at harmony@adam.com.au I'll give it a go.  Thanks, Pete.

They loaded into the stick OK Pete, but I'm still in Test mode.  I even removed the stick and inserted it when requested.

Interestingly, the stick has lost it's logo ID in My Computer, so it may have some other problem.  I can't help feeling that the stick itself may have a fault.  They're mass produced, so the chances are pretty good of the odd one being crook.

Thanks for trying, anyway.  The RLW is starting to kick in now, so I'm through the panic attack. :mutley  Re-runs of Miss Marple are on tonight.  Disbelief will be suspended for the time being.

Sabotaging the thread even further, I had some more good news today.  Our hot water service has pooped itself, so I'm looking at a cold shower in the morning.  I'm glad it's still only Autumn.

No probs mate, we will now  be accused of software piracy now no doubt!

Re the cold shower, save that one for Herr Freiwald, you boil a few kettles and have a "stripdown wash" in comfort, anyone can be uncomfortable.

Pete

Hi Max

This FAQ section that Pete found is very explicit……….and there is a whole series of step by steps……in essence the stick automatically  repairs itself from formatting or deleting when you boot up TC……….I guess its not the first time this has come up

I wonder if it is worth redownloading TC gold from the RR site………move  your layout files to a different directory so that essentially you are making a completely fresh start then carefully follow the step by step Q and A in the FAQs

My apolgies if you have already tried this

max

sorry for telling you to format the stick and pushing you over the edge. i got the info from the TC forum and as it has been said the software should repair the dongle.

it seems to me that the bridge has never been made between the software and the dongle. i would make a list of the instructions people have given you and include your actions to try and resolve the problem. this way you can fire this off when MR. TC gets in touch.

I'm pretty sure I did that when Matt gave me the heads up earlier, John.  I'll have another go.  It can't do any more damage.  Not to worry, Matt.  Best of intentions and all that.  :thumbs
