From all the evidence so far, I would think that the stick is indeed empty. It may be showing 16k occupied because that may be the lowest amount that windows will report (i.e. anything from 1 byte to 16k would show as 16k used).
I wonder if the email problem between you and Freidwald hits both ways so he has not been able to send the code to you?
Looking at the forum, there appears to be only one or two with problems getting the software going compared to the many who seem to be using it successfully. Over on RMWeb there are several who have been using it for years including its earlier versions.
Hopefully the email connection through John will get a response and get your code delivered soon.

I've had a couple of nibbles on the forum, now (which you may have seen), with the usual suggestions, but nothing from Jurgen who is the Administrator.
Sol and the others will tell you if it's going to give problems, I'll be the one to cop them.
I understand that things can go wrong (Murphy's Law and all that), but what rubs me is being ignored.
As we used to say in the Army, "Hurry up and wait. Spread out and keep together."

i just read through the suggestions about the stick on the TC forum. next i would suggest is a format of the said usb stick, it says if it formatted the software will repair the stick:roll:
from TC FORUM
The stick has been anyhow damaged. It does not work anymore, no data is contained on the stick. What to do now?
max
if you go to my computer so you can see the stick, right click and select format. it may or may not ask for quick but it does not matter. fist select quick. once the format is complete remove the dongle and then re insert the dongle. do not carry out any suggested options like open file to view files. then start TC, it does say that the software will repair the dongle:thudor :cheers. try a quick format first and then a full format. REMEMBER TO SELECT THE DONGLE…..
we will crack it

1. The USB stick is now completely empty. Not even the 16 Kb of data remains.
2. Jurgen Freiwald is not responding to any of my contacts.
3. I have paid A$730.00 for an empty 256 Mb USB external drive.
4. I am past being angry. I am very depressed.
Let this be a warning to anyone else on this forum contemplating purchasing RR&Co.

Thats thread is interesting Pete
I checked back to when I made the purchase and my stick already contained the code
What did your email say Max?
Max you must have received some email acknowledgement when you placed your order and when the dongle was shipped………..typically there at least three
This is the email I got
Dear Mr. Dew,
welcome as a new user of TrainController Gold.
Your license to use the software will be sent to you on USB stick by mail.
Please note:
The processing of your order is complete with transfer of the stick. We
strongly recommend to protect the stick against loss.
With the stick you can unlock the software for unlimited use. We recommend
to download the latest version of the software from the Internet. A
complementary CD is also available and can be purchased separately at our
online shop at www.freiwald.com.
Feel free to contact us again, if you have further questions or problems.
I wish you much fun with the software.
Best regards,
Juergen Freiwald
It does seem that Juergen is varying his shipping methods…………..sometimes the code is already in the stick like Pete and I, other times the code is emailed separately.
It would be helpful to know what acknowledgements you received
In defence of RR&co despite all the email addresses I suspect it is a one man firm and this correspondence started on a Friday and by the time he received (I hope) my email it was early Friday evening in Germany.
As far as the RR&Co Forum is concerned I find it to be a useful resource but it often takes a while to get a useful response and Juergen himself often doesnt get involved. It certainly doesnt have the club type atmosphere we enjoy here.
On the few occasions I have emailed him directly he has always replied promptly. The RR&co forum usually shows a notice if the office is closed for more than 2 days
I expect you will receive a reply from him within the next 24 hours

The email response I got at the time of purchase was from Freiwald PayPal@freiwald.com thanking me for the payment.
When the stick arrived, it was wrapped in the following letter:-
I take it you have been following my thread on the RR&Co forum.
I'm begining to feel that I have lost my money.

Jurgen is very sensitive (as are all software developers) of the risk of people using his product for free………..there is a long thread on the forum about this
He may well insist on you returning the stick before he sends you a new one. The fact that it is now blank does not help particularly with the instruction in the letter not to modify or delete the data
I take it you appreciate my point about week ends and time differences?
Sorry to be blunt but it is better to spell it out now. I really sympathise with your dilemma and will continue to do everything I can to help resolve it.
I am thinking as I now find myself defending RR&Co that I should make it clear that I have absolutely no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer
Max it will get sorted and in a couple of weeks this episode will just be a bad memory

Why these companys pratt about using these dongles i cant understand.
Within days of them realeasing their software with dongles cracks will appear on wares sites as software hackers will target the software for the sake of it.
The joke is any person who has no intention of buying the software would download it from some wares site and no dongle would be neccesary.
Its only customers like yourself who have paid what i consider a very large amount of money for a piece of software that suffer with the problems with it and from what i have read these R&Co dongles seem to be fraught with problems.
So they should send yourself and other users a file + registration number to bypass these dongles because they are upsetting good customers like yourself because they are using a unstable form of security.
They are tarnishing a good piece of software which im sure you would be completely happy with for the sake of their stupid dongle.
I think they need to accept if they are marketting a piece of software that people in the computer world consider is overpriced for what it is they will be targetted.
What they are doing at the moment security wise is only upsetting and annoying their loyal customers

Max - don't give up hope! I thought I would just make a couple of checks. Firstly in searching the RR&Co Forum, I see that the last time Juergen replied to a post was around 8:30am on Thursday 3rd June.
I then did some digging and discovered that 3rd June is a public holiday in many areas of Germany. Just maybe he has taken a couple of days off and will be back in the "office" on Monday morning.

Off topic. Incidently how many of us on this thread have served in the Forces and have made like trees and have now retired into Civ Div?
At least 50% of us alone on this thread i reckon, John, Matt, Max and myself we must be gluttons for punishment?
Max according Herr Freiwald in his usb stick thread he reckons its self repairing?

Did all that, Matt. Now the dongle is completely empty.
Max, but is it really empty? When you look at the pie chart, how much space does it show? Earlier you showed 244 Mbyte free with only 16 Kbyte of files. That still leaves another 12 Mbyte if it has a capacity of 256 Mbyte.
I suspect that the stick is partitioned. This is a common way of providing secure keys. You will not be able to reach the partition from windows, but the software should be able to if everything is working correctly.
By formatting, all you have deleted are the windows files - an icon, and another very small file. From what is written on the RR&Co site, I would think that these files can be recovered from TC, again, providing everything is working properly in the first place.
Formatting would not touch the hidden partition, if I am correct in assuming that there is one.
