Well.  My friend who wrangles computers for a living came over tonight and fixed my laptop.  It took him about an hour, but he nailed it.  Not being too computer lit., I will describe it this way - when I went to uninstall the offending driver a small bit broke off and was blocking the system.

Anyway, Paul put his special hat on and got it straightened out.  I must admit I felt a bit less dumb when it took him an hour or so to it.  If he had just done it with a couple of clicks, I would have been really embarrassed.

Wendy made one of her famous beef and red wine pies, followed up with an apricot flanny thing with cream and ice cream.  We washed it down with a couple of bottles of Jamiesons Run 2008 Cab. Shiraz Merlot and Paul was on a roll.  "How do we run the trains?" he asked.

"Well,  I'd normally use my Zug software, but I can't figure out how to unlock it.  The key is on the desktop email page."  Ten minutes later, Paul had loaded the Zug, Passkey and all, and was driving a GP 7 up and down the shelf layout, honking the horn and ringing the bell.

Next step is to unscramble the LS 150.  I tried to extend the pulse time, having activated all six turnout motors, and now only two of them work.  My friend, Neil knows about these things and is coming over to sort it out for me.  I wonder what Wendy will make for dinner.

Better get some more red wine in.  :mutley

darn typos - must be the wine . . . .

Are you sure Max you can go to work tomorrow with all that booze sloshing around? You might get away blaming Paul for the first red-eyed session trying to repair/clean carpets but Neil for the second I doubt it !

Hooray!!  :doublethumb   Thanks to the Lenz user group forum and some help from Neil, the LS 150 is programmed.  A customer is coming to pick up his loco in a week or so.  Funds will be available for the Rr&Co software.

A couple of small jobs to tidy up and I'll be ready to rock and roll.:Happy

Thanks, Matt.  I've given the LR 101s their addresses.  I should be ready to start, I think.

I'd better re-read the thread.  Cheers

Any of you chaps using TC to control light signals? just had a look at what is about and i am a wee bit confused. Say for example i wish to use Berko/Eckon BR type lights what interface would you recommend?

I know its a bit of a crap question as we all use different DCC controllers, i am using ECOS so therefore i guess i would need to use an S88 interface from LDT? i see they they do interfaces for european signals just wondered if any one can share their experiences of using TC to control them, i mean its halfway there when it allows passage through a block.

Or is this another question for a whole new thread? Mods move me if you wish.

Regards

Pete

STILL TRYING TO JUSTIFY £400 FOR GOLD, BUT SEEMS TO BE NO OTHER OPTION.

Put your question regarding Ecos in the dcc section in a new topic called ECos 2 with s88 i think an s88 is what you require but i think you have to make sure you have the correct model of LDT s88 to work correct with ECOS 2

Neil Or Iansa will notice you question there and will probably answer it properly

the signal board you want is a LS-DEC-NS from LDT

LS-DEC-NS: A three head signal decoder with a fourth output for indicators such as speed limit signs when the caution (yellow) is displayed.

The Adap-LS modules provide specific connection for some makes of signal with unusual connection requirements.

i have been told they are great for up to 3 aspect signals. word of warning if you go for 3 aspect expect some head scratching setting the conditions.

For those using RR & Co, the 2010 issue by Model Railroader of  Model Railroad Planning , has a 7 page article on signalling using RR & Co software combined with DCC.

Sol i wish i could get a copy. Here in Preston we had a large bookshop called Borders (a large corp from the US i think i saw a store in Chicago) i loved it and you could get all the modelling mags from across the pond as well as all the UK mags, but unfortunately they went belly up just before Christmas, i was and still am gutted!

So if anybody can give me a heads up on where i can get a copy i would be grateful.

Hi Brian,

it’s not just the colour screen version of ECoS, it is the original model too.  One of the recent updates (well probably about a year ago now) had an effect on the LDT s-88’s.  This can be countered by deactivating Railcom however for those who do not wish to do that an additional modification can be bought from LDT to modify your existing LDT s-88.  New S-88’s bought from LDT will have been modified and will not have this problem.

cheers

Neil

Have any of you R &R and co users experimented with the 4D sound package they do

A few times i have seen examples of it and it looks pretty impressive and if you weigh up the cost of sound decoders its probably a far cheaper option to bring sound to the layout if you have a number of locomotives

OK.  I've been paid for a couple of sound decoder jobbies and I'm flush - ready to purchase my Gold Rr&Co.  Are there any ptifalls to wary of?  (of which to be wary?)

Go for it Max!!!

As previously discussed the learning curve is steep but there is lots of help available here, on RMWeb and on the RR&Co Forum.

I dont know if you have a dedicated computor in your railway room…..but you get a dongle thingy as a key  that goes into a USB port and I have heard that constant putting it in and out can damage it………..I have only one laptop that I use everywhere…..home, boat (navigation) and railway so I got a small USB hub and I leave the dongle permanently in that connected to the Lenz USB interface…..then I just plug in the hub connection……….the ultimate solution is to buy another computor and get a large monitor (or two)

Good Luck………have fun………and do let us know how you progress :cheers

Well i ordered gold at the weekend, and eagerly await the dongles arrival! i have got to beat my springer spaniel to the postman first.

I got so frustrated with the 15 minutes, it isn't sufficient to profile a loco and when the 30 days expired i was knackered and frustrated.

I am sorry fellas but TC gets a bit addictive i am just glad i have a small layout.

I managed to get my signalling working in the sim this weekend (with a little push from Sol) and this is where triggers and conditions came into  their own, you have to be very logical and systematic but when you get the idea it's a doddle. In fact it took me back to the days of the sinclair spectrum when we all had a go oomputer Basic programming! Matt you ain't old enough!

Pete
