Post any questions arising from "First Steps with RR&Co"

Max

The stop number is the physical memory address the computer locked at

ftdibus.sys   is the file which was trying to be used when it locked

That may be  a file for your device driver which may be within the folder for the driver or could be placed within the windows folder

Do a search for that file on your computer it will tell you where it is.

This sounds like a forum question at the R&R site if they have one

Have now learnt that ftdibus.sys is part of the USB2 system. You say all is working on another PC. Are they both USB2 or is the other one USB1 ?

As Matt says, you may have an older version of the USB drivers than the L1 wants to use when working at USB2 speeds.

Hope you find the problem soon.

have you updated your drivers recently? i have a dell 610 and i had problems when running server. it would not pick it up. i will be using a dell desktop in the train room so i transfered it to this and it worked fine. try using driver genious to update your drivers. the dell 600 and the 610 are now very outdated. have you tried installing the softwre from both disks and also download the software from the lenz site.

first try to update the USB drivers (suck eggs moment)

two options

1

press start

right click on computer

left click on properties

(may differ with operating system)

select device manager  The Device Manager is under Hardware in Properties.

then select the USB drivers, right click and then select properties and update driver   There is no listing for USB drivers as such in the device manager

use the internet to update the drivers

2

do the same as above but for the last step select the usb driver the select action (at top) and delete. then select action again and scan for new hardware. this should then pick up the usb and install the drivers.

PM sent also    Got it, thanks.

Thanks, Brian.  I'm running the registry scan at the moment.  Should I click on driver updates?

It's found 263 registry errors, but it won't fix them unless I give it money!  :mutley

It seems pretty clear now that it's a USB driver error now, Geoff.  I'm guessing I have to update the laptop to USB 2.  I put a new mother board in it a few months ago and I might not have put it in the right way up - or something!

Max dont pay for that it can always find registry errors every day if you run it

There free software available for that anyways

All you need to do is update that usb driver  that appears to be the problem follow Matts post

that should help you with that

If you bought the new motherboard there must have been a cd with it the drivers will be on that.

MAny people dont realise that and let the windows install use thits own drivers

I still have the motherboard box, but no driver came with it, Brian.  It seems like it's likely I have to upgrade to USB 2 - well it kind of makes sense.  I tried Matt's fix, but hit a wall when it came to finding the driver to update.

I'm not very computer literate, as you can see.  What I need is a step by step guide to doing the upgrade.

See below . . .

It's a refurbished one, Brian.  I got it from a mob in Texas with help from Wayne Williams.  I might have to take the laptop to the computer shop and ask the man to do an upgrade for me.  I have no idea how to do it myself.

It's a Dell D 600, Brian.  I've got three of them, that's why I rebuilt this one.  They've been really reliable.  I Googled Dell D600 and found the supplier in Texas.  Maybe if I do it again I can find them.  They are exclusively Dell.  I'll have a look.

Max try googling the error message Stop followed by all the numbers,  most BSOD (Blue screen of death) errors are out there these can be found on various forums or microsoft. But google the error message and you will get some leads.
