A narrow gauge railway between the mines, the sawmill and the explosives factory

Following with great interest.

I've avoided making trees thus far but given my layout is UK outline, some will have to grow pretty soon ……………….

Tree making is not too difficult but 'fiddly'.

It's the fiddly bit that concerns me Claus ……………………………………

Also, not sure what to use as the bark covering…………………….  I have DAS clay but not sure if that's ideal and not sure what you guys call 'gap filler' - is it some kind of mastic ?

Too busy gardening – no time for trees

wct 2512171.jpg
This may sound like a contradiction. However, I have been busy in the garden. Only today I did find some time to work on the trees for the small forest near the Cricket Ground. The trees have got the first layer of 'leaves'. Once the glue is properly dried I will add more foliage.

Coming along nicely, Claus. I've yet to build a tree worth having.

Cheers Pete.

It smells like pizza

wct 2512221.jpg
The small forest with the path leading up to the Cricket* Ground is finished. Six gum trees (eucalyptus trees) and 12 shrubs have been planted. The leaves on the shrubs are made from 'rubbed' oregano leaves bought at the local supermarket. In the beginning they did smell like pizza!

The path is unused at the moment, but I think it will be busy before the local cricket* derby on Boxing Day.

* I apologise to our English readers for mentioning 'cricket'!

The Clashes

wct 2512261.jpg
It is Boxing Day and the local crowd has begun walking up the path to the Cricket Ground. The train with the players and spectators from Wombat Creek is about to stop at the halt. Before long the Boxing Day cricket match known as the 'Clashes' between Gumnut Gully and Wombat Creek will begin with the coin toss.

Claus

As we British always say, "It's the taking part that matters, not who wins" …………………  I wonder why it's only the British who say that ………?

Narrow 'narrow gauge'

wct 2601171.jpg
The construction of The Long Tunnel Gold Mine in Gumnut Gully has commenced. Unexpectedly, the rails for the mining carts have been put in before the mine itself! The gauge is just 5mm (18 inches) and made of timber sleepers and I-profile polystyrene strips. How the ore will be transferred from the carts to the wagons is still to be determined.

4 to 5 cm of track towards the black square will be inside the mine. The rest will be visible.
