Fortunately the year in Gumnut Gully is 1963. Superannuation wasn't introduced in Australia before 1992!

Gumnut Gully Fire Station

wct 2511031.jpg

With windows and doors in place and the walls painted, it is time to get a roof on.

The Gumnut Gully fire station is completed – at least for the time being. The roof is detachable in case I want to detail the interior. So far only one fire engine is stationed in Gumnut Gully. I will be on the outlook for one more.

Quiet Time

The (so far only) fireman in Gumnut Gully is having a quiet time reading yesterday's paper. The front page celebrates Geelong's win over Hawthorn in the VFL Grand Final. The Grand Final is always on a Saturday and the paper must be from the day after. However, the shops in Wombat Creek are open and Sunday trading was unheard of in 1963!

The first photo shows the 'dunny' without the fire station in place. The colour is based on remnants of paint shown on a Google Street View from 2025.

Grassy banks

The banks along Stony Creek are now covered with grass. The foot bridge across the creek will get guard rails before opened to the public.

Cricket Ground Halt

The foot bridge across Stony Creek is finished along with the Cricket Ground Halt.

The Gumnut Gully Cricket Ground is a landmark in Gumnut Gully. Linked by a walking track from Cricket Ground Halt, the cricket ground is perched at the top of a hill. Because there is a lack of flat ground in the township the mining community, in their spare time, carved the top off the mountain to construct a ground. This work was completed in 1882. It is claimed that the half-hour climb up the hill to reach the ground, in conjunction with the long trip to Gumnut Gully itself, ensures a home advantage.
 (Sort of source: Wikipedia)

I have begun 'propagating' trees and shrubs for the hill side.

Sorry gentlemen! If the first Test Match had been played at the GGCG (Gumnut Gully Cricket Ground), the outcome would have been the same! The English team would have been exhausted even before they got to the ground.

Second step: Gap filler and paint have been applied to the wire frames. The the gap filler stays flexible once dried. Excellent if I need to make minor adjustment to the branches.
