(Map at the bottom of this message).

The Open day is part of the events for the Romsey Festival:
https://www.romseyfestival.org/genre/2026/7/18/
so there's something for non-modelling family members, too.
  • The RDRMS Open Day line-up according to the draft programme I saw is currently:
  • Lone Star – Member’s layout of Lone Star 000 products
  • Somebody’s Snob – Member’s 009 layout
  • Penzance – Club layout of Penzance station in 00
  • Elderwood – Member’s layout under construction, N gauge
  • Sadler’s Basin – Club N gauge layout, under construction
  • Wire Liss – Member’s 00 layout, under construction
  • Weeke End – Demonstration and layout featuring Scalescenes products
  • Molendorp – Club H0e layout donated by a retiring member
  • Club sales and information stand – come and buy something! So far I know of model products to be available in N, 00, H0, H0m, 0m, and books too
  • Romsey Signal Box Preservation Society display and information stand - https://romseysignalbox.org.uk/visit-us/ The Signal Box is listed as having an Open Day on 18 July on the Romsey Festival listings, although I didn’t see it on their own site yet.
  • Demonstration stand of modelling techniques – I’m told that the demonstration will be of making fences.
  • NO ENTRY FEE – however a donations bucket will be available

It's this coming Saturday - come and say hello! I'm likely to be on the Molendorp layout.

Here are some pictures from the Romsey & District MRS Open Day.
In the order listed in the opening post:

Lone Star – Member’s layout of Lone Star 000 products - I only remember the push-along version of Lone Star. It was interesting to see this electric version set, complete with its vacuum-formed plastic base.

Somebody’s Snob – Member’s 009 layout

Penzance – Club layout of Penzance station in 00 - this layout was recently refurbished, and shown at the Romsey & District MRS exhibition in March 2024. It is being converted from DC to DCC, and the Open Day was the first opportunity to try DCC on the complete layout.

Elderwood – Member’s layout under construction, N gauge - the opportunity was taken to assemble and run both halves of hte layout.

Sadler’s Basin – Club N gauge layout, under construction - this is a large layout with several scenes depicted along the viewing side. The track and wiring have been completed; the scenic modelling is in full swing!

Wyre Liss – Member’s 00 layout, under construction  - demonstration of wireless contol in 00. This demonstration operated without power to the track. Each locomotive contained a batter y and a receiver. Three operated under radio control, and one under infra-red. Note that by not requiring power to the rails, the layout demonstated a 'Y' junction and reverse loop.

Weeke End – Demonstration and layout featuring Scalescenes products - Here is the layout. The buildings are by Scalescenes, downloaded from the Scalescenes website then printed at home.

Molendorp – Club H0e layout donated by a retiring member - the village is imagined to be on the Netherlands-Belgium border

Club sales and information stand – come and buy something! So far I know of model products to be available in N, 00, H0, H0m, 0m, and books too

Our next exhibition will be the 47th Annual Exhibition on 6th and 7th March, 2027. I'll start a thread for that nearer the time.
