Quite true!No burnt out ones, but I'm sure I've got a picture somewhere of a partially restored one at Helston. I was amazed to see a huge slab of concrete formed the main bed of the van.
If you look at your second picture above you will also see big slabs of cast iron in front and rear in front of the verandah.
The extra weight helps braking efficiency.

Are there any names to go wth those pictures for the less well informed of us?
Oooh, er, well, I think the first piccy is of a GWR pattern 'Toad' brakevan.
The 2nd one is possibly a standard 20t BR brakevan.
And the Shunter's truck is also of GWR origin, and was used to allow the shunter (the guy who uncoupled and re-coupled the wagons) somewhere to store the necessary tools and also somewhere on which to ride, whilst the engine was moving about the yard.
But I have to be honest, I just take pictures of things I might need as reference in the future. I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable will confirm / correct my captions.
